An ambient curable aqueous dispersion of polymer particles containing pendant ethylenically unsaturated side chains; a method of applying to a substrate a coating composition containing the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles; and a method of making the aqueous dispersion of polymer particles are provided.

Ambient curable polymer

An aqueous composite particle composition containing composite particles and polyvalent metal ion is provided. The composite particles contain pigment particle with adsorbed polymer particles. The polymer particles contain pendant acid functional groups and has a molecular weight in a select range. Also provided are methods of preparing the aqueous composite particle composition. The aqueous composite particle composition is useful for preparing coating with high gloss and improved solvent resistance.

Aqueous composite particle composition

A method of preparing a curable coating and a method of curing the curable coating are disclosed. The curable composition from which the curable coating is prepared may be applied to the surface of a substrate in neat form or in aqueous medium to produce the coating. Curing of the curable coating may be accomplished by chemical generation of free radicals, by electrochemical generation of free radicals, by electron beam, by photochemical generation of free radicals, or by other electromagnetic irradiation.

Aqueous dispersion of copolymers formed by the polymerization of a monomer mixture containing 0.05% to less than 4.5% by weight of certain terminally unsaturated oligomers are useful for improving the scrub resistance, corrosion resistance, opacifying capacity and/or efflorescence resistance of a coating.

Aqueous composition

The present invention relates to a curable composition including an acryloxysilane- or acyloxysilane-containing oligomer prepared by a continuous process. In addition, photocurable composition including an alkoxysilane or acyloxysilane oligomer is provided. Methods are provided for curing the curable and photocurable compositions.

Curable composition

An aqueous dispersion of a copolymer formed by the emulsion polymerization of a monomer mixture including from 0.1 to 20% by weight of one or more terminally unsaturated carboxylic acid oligomers; from 80 to 99.9% by weight of at least two monomers selected from esters and amides of (meth)acrylic acid, vinyl esters of carboxylic acids, vinyl aromatic compounds, ethylenically unsaturated nitrites, vinyl halides, and non-aromatic hydrocarbons; and 0 to 10% by weight of other copolymerisable monomers is provided. The aqueous copolymer dispersion is polymerized in the presence of anionic surfactant and at an acid pH. Also provided is a method of preparing the aqueous copolymer dispersion. Aqueous copolymer dispersions including the terminally unsaturated carboxylic acid oligomers have low viscosities over a broad pH range and are useful in coating compositions, as binders for nonwovens, textiles, paper coatings, and as adhesives.

Emulsion copolymers from terminally unsaturated acrylic acid oligomers

Aqueous solutions of hydrophobically-modified alkali-soluble emulsion polymers which exhibit relatively low solution viscosity are disclosed. Such solutions are particularly useful for controlling the viscosity of aqueous systems to which the solutions are added.
