A method and system for reducing thermal load by monitoring and controlling current flow in a portable computing device ('PCD') are disclosed. The method includes monitoring a temperature of the PCD and determining if the temperature has reached a temperature threshold condition. This temperature threshold condition may be comprised within any one or more of a plurality of thermal policy states, in which each thermal policy state may dictate various thermal mitigation techniques. The thermal policy states may be associated with values that may indicate thermal loading of a PCD. If the temperature has reached the first threshold condition, then electrical current exiting a power supply device may be monitored. If it is determined that the electrical current has exceeded a current threshold condition, such as a maximum current, a hardware device corresponding to the electrical current may be selected for application of a thermal mitigation technique.

Method and system for reducing thermal load by monitoring and controlling current flow in a portable computing device

Various embodiments of methods and systems for heuristic determination and thermal analysis of component placement on a printed circuit board ('PCB') for use in a portable computing device ('PCD') are disclosed. It is an advantage of embodiments that thermal energy generating components, such as processors, may be heuristically selected and arranged on a selected PCB according to varying layouts and combinations and then evaluated for thermal dissipation efficiency under an assortment of use case scenarios. In this way, users of the system and method may quickly narrow down commercially feasible component layouts, identify the most efficient layouts and then heuristically modify the layouts to develop an optimal arrangement.

System and method for use case-based thermal analysis of heuristically determined component combinations and layouts in a portable computing device

Power consumption may be reduced in a media device including a first processor coupled to the non-volatile memory, either directly or indirectly, allowing the first processor to generate a pointer structure. The first processor may also be coupled, either directly or indirectly to a memory space, allowing the first processor to write the pointer structure in the memory space. The media device includes a second processor, such as a DSP/SHW or peripheral processor, and may be also be coupled, either directly or indirectly to the memory space, allowing the second processor to retrieve a block of media data from the non-volatile memory. Retrieval of the block of media data may be read directly from the non-volatile memory, or in some cases, the media data being retrieved may be parsed. The media data may be an audio file data, video file data, or both.
