A method of operating a heat transfer system includes circulating a heat transfer fluid through a heat transfer circuit in fluid communication with an electric system, and obtaining real-time measurements of fluid properties of the heat transfer fluid. A dimensional effectiveness factor for the heat transfer fluid (DEF) is calculated based on the fluid properties and for a selected pump and a selected dominant flow regime within the heat transfer circuit, and a dimensional effectiveness factor for a reference fluid (DEF) is calculated for the selected pump and the selected dominant flow regime within the heat transfer circuit. A normalized effectiveness factor (NEF) of the heat transfer fluid is then obtained, whereby a health of the heat transfer fluid is obtained. If the NEFis below a predetermined threshold, the health will be considered deteriorated, and if the NEFis above the predetermined threshold, the health will be considered viable.

Monitoring health of heat transfer fluids for electric systems

Heat transfer fluids corresponding to mixtures of at least one hydrogen bond donor and at least one hydrogen bond acceptor are provided. The heat transfer fluids can have an unexpectedly high heat capacity relative to the expected heat capacity based on the heat capacities of the at least one hydrogen bond donor and the at least one hydrogen bond acceptor. In some aspects, the heat transfer fluids can also have a sufficiently high electrical resistivity to be suitable for use in environments such as heat management systems in electric vehicles.

An apparatus for adding weight to an arrow and a system and method of correcting the trajectory of the arrow with the added weight is disclosed and described. The arrow can include a compensator designed to fit as a sleeve on a shaft of the arrow and the compensator has diameter that is larger than a diameter of the shaft of the arrow. A thickness of the compensator, which is measured as the difference in the diameter of the compensator and the diameter of the shaft of the arrow, is configured to enable a user to aim the arrow with a bow that has been sighted for a standard arrow.

System and method for modifying the trajectory of an arrow

This disclosure relates to a method for controlling lubrication of a rotary shaft seal. The method involves providing an apparatus having a bulk lubricating oil reservoir, a rotary shaft that passes through the bulk lubricating oil reservoir, and a rotary shaft seal. The rotary shaft seal has a sealing edge in proximity with the rotary shaft creating a contact zone. The contact zone has a film of lubricating oil. The method also involves increasing the rate of heat flow along the rotary shaft to reduce temperature of the film of lubricating oil in the contact zone. Increasing the rate of heat flow along the rotary shaft is accomplished by using rotary shaft materials of construction having sufficient high thermal conductivity, rotary shaft coatings having sufficient high thermal conductivities, or increasing the surface area of the rotary shaft. This disclosure also relates to a method for controlling heat transfer in a contact zone, and a method for improving performance of an apparatus.

Method for controlling lubrication of a rotary shaft seal

An adjustable platform work tray includes a storage platform, a fixed mounting channel, an adjustable mounting channel, a support frame, and an adjustable brace. The storage platform that function as the storage area for materials and tools includes a base and a side wall. The fixed mounting channel is laterally mounted along a first wall section of the side wall and functions as one of the mounting structures. The support frame is perpendicularly mounted to the base and oriented opposite of the side wall. The support frame is positioned adjacent to the first wall section as the adjustable mounting channel is slidably mounted to the support frame. The adjustable mounting channel that functions as the second structure and the fixed mounting channel are positioned coplanar to each other. The adjustable brace is rotatably engaged in between the base and the adjustable mounting channel to further support the storage platform.

This disclosure relates to heat transfer fluids for use in heat transfer systems. The heat transfer fluids comprise at least one non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid. The non-aqueous dielectric heat transfer fluid has density (&#x3c1;), specific heat (c), and dynamic viscosity (&#x3bc;) properties. The heat transfer fluids have a normalized effectiveness factor (NEF) as determined by the following equation: wherein DEFis a dimensional effectiveness factor for the heat transfer fluid that is determined based on an equation designated in Table 1 below for a selected pump and a selected heat transfer circuit dominant flow regime; wherein DEFis a dimensional effectiveness factor for a reference fluid that is determined using the same equation designated in Table 1 for DEFabove for the same selected pump and the same selected heat transfer circuit dominant flow regime; and wherein the heat transfer fluid has a NEFvalue equal to or greater than 1.0. This disclosure also provides a method for improving performance of a heat transfer system, a method for improving performance of an apparatus, and a method for selecting a heat transfer fluid for use in a heat transfer system. The heat transfer fluids and methods of this disclosure are applicable in situations where the heat transfer system is dominated by heat conveyance.

Heat transfer fluids and methods of use

Systems and methods are provided for estimating the total base number of used oil in an engine. The systems and methods can involve characterizing the sulfur content and at least one other element content of the oil both before introduction into the engine and after passing through an engine cylinder during combustion. Depending on the aspect, a total base number of the oil prior to use can also be measured, or the total base number before use can be estimated based on the at least one element content.

A method for improving thermo-oxidative stability and elastomer compatibility in an apparatus lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil including a lubricating oil base stock. The lubricating oil base stock includes a multi-aromatic base stock of the formula:R&#x2014;R&#x2014;(X&#x2014;R)&#x2014;Rwherein each Ris the same or different and is a terminal group, each Ris the same or different and represents a substituted or unsubstituted aromatic moiety; each X is a linking moiety that is carbon-carbon single bond or a linking group, n is a number from 1 to 2000, and the ratio of the total number of aromatic ring carbon atoms to aliphatic carbon atoms in said formula is greater than 0.32:1. The multi-aromatic base stock has a kinematic viscosity greater than 20 mm/s at 100&#xb0; C.
