A manway assembly for a railroad tank car features a nozzle defining a central opening and having a sidewall, a cover, a hinge attaching the cover to the nozzle, and a seal assembly to seal the cover to the nozzle. The seal assembly may include a circumferential seal and a circumferential seal channel. The circumferential seal may include a top portion, a bottom portion opposite the top portion, and a side portion between the top portion and the bottom portion. An underside edge portion of the cover may be provided with the circumferential seal channel. The circumferential seal may be positioned within the circumferential seal channel. The circumferential seal may have a C-shaped cross section and may be positioned in the circumferential seal channel such that the top portion of the seal is seated against a top wall of the circumferential seal channel and the bottom portion of the seal is seated against a circumferential ledge of the nozzle.

Railroad tank car manway assembly

A handle assembly for an outlet valve for a tank, where the outlet valve has a stem that is actuated to open and close the outlet valve, is provided. The handle assembly includes a handle. A shaft is attached to the handle, and an adapter attached to the shaft. A bracket is adapted to mount the shaft to the tank so that the shaft is pivotally mounted with respect to the tank and movable with respect to the outlet valve between an engaged position, where the adapter is connected to the stem, and a disengaged position, where the adapter is disconnected from the stem.

Disengaging handle assembly for a bottom outlet valve

A handle assembly for an outlet valve for a tank, where the outlet valve has a coupler that is actuated to open and close the outlet valve, is provided. The handle assembly includes a handle with a shaft attached to the handle. The shaft has a tip. A bracket is adapted to mount the shaft to the tank so that the shaft is pivotally mounted with respect to the tank and movable with respect to the outlet valve between an engaged position, where the tip of the shaft engages the coupler, and a disengaged position, where the tip of the shaft is disengaged from the coupler.

A removable independent steam jacket for a bottom outlet valve of a railroad tank car able to connect to an existing bottom outlet valve, with or without an integral steam jacket, in a field environment without having to take the tank car in for repairs having a partially annular hollow base with a rectangular cross-section and a plurality of pipes connected to the base extending away from the bottom of the base. The removable steam jacket also has a plurality of mounting brackets connected to the bottom the base for installing and removing it from the bottom outlet valve.

A manway assembly features a nozzle featuring a groove. A cover is attached to the nozzle and may be pivoted between open and closed positions. Retainers secure latch segments to the cover so that they may slide with respect to the cover. A latching mechanism moves the latch segments into and out of engagement with the groove of the nozzle sidewall when the cover is in the closed position. The latching mechanism may include a screw rod that is turned to move the latch segments. The nozzle may also include a nozzle rim that is provided with the manway assembly and secured to a remaining portion of the nozzle. The nozzle assembly may also include an outer cover attached to the nozzle in a hinged fashion and adapted to cover the manway cover when in the closed position to protect the latching mechanism from the environment and tampering.

A hinge pivotally attaches a cover to the nozzle so that the cover may be pivoted between an open position, where the central opening is generally uncovered, and a closed position, where the central opening is generally covered by the cover. Retainers secure a plurality of latch segments to the cover so that the latch segments may slide with respect to the cover. A latching mechanism moves the latch segments into engagement with the groove of the nozzle sidewall when the cover is in the closed position. The latching mechanism also removes the latch segments from engagement with the sidewall groove when the cover is to be opened.
