Described in one aspect is a multi-pressure monitoring system for cell or other therapy includes a first catheter having a first lumen for accepting a treatment device, a second lumen for inflating a balloon, a pressure sensor for monitoring fluid pressure within the first lumen, and a flow restrictor such as a hemostasis valve for limiting the exchange of fluids into and out of the first lumen while treatment devices are present or exchanged in the first lumen. Also disclosed is a method of using the first catheter with a first pressure monitor coupled to the first pressure sensor along with a second catheter attached to a second pressure sensor coupled to a second pressure monitor. The second catheter is positioned within the first lumen of the first catheter during treatment operations and the first and second pressure monitors are used to verify proper pressures throughout the procedure. Described also are novel methods, systems, and catheters for delivering flowable therapeutic substances, such as viable cellular preparations, to patients.

Catheter systems and methods useful for cell therapy

In at least one embodiment of the present invention, a method for making an occluding device for occlusion of fluid flow through a lumen of a body vessel is provided. The method comprises attaching a coating to an embolization coil that is substantially straight. The coating is nominally strained on the substantially straight embolization coil. The embolization coil has a pre-curled tension to facilitate the embolization coil being curled within the lumen of the body vessel when deployed. The embolization coil is restrained from curling until deploying to reduce pre-deployment straining of the coating.

Occluding device for occlusion of a body vessel and method for making the same

Medical device coatings are provided that simultaneously release a therapeutic agent at different rates from different portions of the medical device coating. In a first embodiment, medical device coatings are provided that include particles comprising a therapeutic agent with two or more different particles sizes within a single layer on a surface of the implantable device. In a second embodiment, medical device coatings are provided having a higher concentration of the therapeutic agent in a first region of the coating than in a second region of the coating. In a third embodiment, medical device coatings are provided that are formed by certain coating processes wherein the droplet size of a spray coating solution is changed during the coating process. These coating processes preferably include applying a solution comprising a therapeutic agent and a suitable solvent to a surface of an implantable medical device. In a fourth embodiment, methods of treatment are provided that include implanting a coated medical device.

Medical device coatings for releasing a therapeutic agent at multiple rates

Catheter balloons () for delivering a bioactive () to a body vessel in a greater amount and/or more quickly are provided, as well as related methods of treatment. The catheter balloon may include a dual balloon assembly at the distal portion () of the catheter having an inner balloon (), an outer balloon () with apertures () concentrically arrayed around the inner balloon, and a catheter shaft () adapted to deliver a carrier () through the apertures of the outer balloon. The bioactive is disposed on a portion of at least one of the inner and outer balloon surfaces. Radial outward expansion of the inner balloon urges the outer balloon into contact with the wall of the body vessel. The carrier is introducible within the catheter shaft to pass through the annular lumen () between the balloons and through the apertures of the outer balloon. The carrier interacts with the bioactive in order to release a therapeutically effective amount of drug to the wall of the body vessel.

Coated balloon catheter

One embodiment of the present invention provides an implantable valve prosthesis. The valve prosthesis includes a frame defining a lumen extending between a proximal frame end and a distal frame end along a longitudinal axis, and a first valve leaflet positioned within the lumen and having a distal edge attached to the frame and a proximal edge free of the frame. The first valve leaflet comprises a first and a second slit extend distally from the proximal edge and defining a free portion of the first valve leaflet between the first and second slits. The first valve leaflet is movable between a first position that allows fluid flow in a first, antegrade, direction and a second position that restricts flow in a second, retrograde direction.

The dual balloon catheter assembly may be used in a cryoplasty treatment that is provided in combination with eluting an antiproliferative to reduce and/or eliminate vessel fractures, thereby inhibiting proliferative response after angioplasty.

An implantable valve prosthesis including a frame defining a lumen extending between a proximal frame end and a distal frame end and a leaflet positioned within the lumen and having a distal edge attached to the frame and a proximal edge free of the frame. The leaflet includes a first and a second slit extending distally from the proximal edge and defining a free portion of the leaflet between the first and second slits. The leaflet is movable between a position that allows fluid flow in an antegrade direction and a second position that restricts flow in a retrograde direction.

Artificial valve prostheses with a free leaflet portion

A filter device for capturing thrombi in a body vessel and transformable to a stent to maintain the blood vessel open is disclosed. The filter comprises a plurality of longitudinal struts comprising proximal and distal portions. Each proximal portion has a first end. The first ends are attached together along a longitudinal axis. Each distal portion extends from the proximal portion to an anchoring hook. The distal portions of the longitudinal struts are configured to expand in the body vessel. The device comprises a biodegradable member attached to the device for maintaining the first ends attached together in a closed position. The biodegradable member is comprised of bio-absorbable material so that the biodegradable member degrades at a predetermined time period after the filter is deployed in the body vessel allowing the first ends to radially expand to an open position defining the stent.

Temporary filter device

An implantable flow modifying device and a method of modifying flow through a lumen are provided. The flow modifying device includes a flexible member configured for permitting fluid flow through the body lumen in a first direction at a first rate and for restricting fluid flow through the body lumen in a second direction at a second rate. The flexible member includes a passageway defined by a sheath of biocompatible material, the passageway having a first end portion and a second end portion. The first end portion is sized and shaped to at least partially restrict fluid flow in the first direction and capable of at least partially collapsing in response to fluid flow in the second direction. The second end portion is adapted to seal with a wall of the body lumen. A diameter of a first opening defined in the first end portion is smaller than a diameter of a second opening defined in the second end portion.
