The present invention is an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus which includes a primary imaging member for producing an electrostatic latent image on a receiver, a development station for applying toner particles to said latent image which forms a developed toner image on the receiver. A fuser assembly is included for fixing the developed toner image, to form a fused toner image on the receiver. A transport member is provided for transporting the receiver to or from the fuser assembly, the transport member having a substrate bearing an oil-absorbing layer that includes transparent alumina inorganic particles of gamma-alumina, dispersed in an organic binder.

An electrophotographic machine includes a dielectric member configured for carrying a toner image. A transfer roller engages the dielectric member and transfers the toner image to an image substrate. A transfer roller power supply biases and periodically reverse biases the transfer roller. A transfer roller cleaning brush having conductive bristles engages the transfer roller. An electrically conductive brush housing encloses the transfer roller cleaning brush and defines an opening through which the bristles contact the transfer roller. The brush housing is electrically charged to the same electrical potential as said transfer roller and is selectively discharged.

Method and apparatus for discharging a conductive brush cleaning assembly for a transfer roller

An electrophotographic machine includes a dielectric member carrying a toner image. A biased transfer roller engages the dielectric member and transfers the toner image to an image substrate. A cleaning brush having a plurality of bristles, at least some of which are electrically conductive, engages the transfer roller. An electrically conductive housing encloses the cleaning brush. The bristles contact the transfer roller through an opening in the housing. At least one of the cleaning brush and the housing is biased to substantially the same electrical potential as the transfer roller.

The present invention is in the field of electrographic printers (including copiers). More specifically this invention relates to a corona charging device used to charge the surface of a photoconductor. At least one wire in a corona charger in an electrographic printer is damped by contacting the wire with a damping pad. In one preferred embodiment, the damping pad is a foamed silicone elastomer.

Apparatus and method for damping a corona wire in an electrographic printer

A wire tensioning mechanism for tensioning a wire having an end one and an end two in a machine in which the wire has a means for attachment on end two and is fixed to the machine at end one, comprises a slide block, and a spring. The slide block is slidably mounted to the machine at end two of the wire, such that the slide block slides parallel to the wire. The slide block has a slot which is wider than the wire but narrower than the means for attachment, such that when the slide block is mounted on the machine, the wire end two can be slid into the slot such that pulling the slide block in the direction away from the wire forces the means for attachment against the slot, but does not allow the means for attachment to pass through. The slot is lined up with the wire such that when the wire is in tension, there are no side loads on the means for attachment.

Corona wire tensioning mechanism

The present invention relates in general to a corona charger for use in an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus or the like, and more particularly to a cleaning mechanism for the corona wires of a corona charger. According to one aspect, a corona wire assembly is provided having a corona wire and a cleaning pad with a hole, the corona wire extending through the hole. According to another aspect, a method for cleaning a corona wire is provided wherein relative movement is generated between a corona wire and a cleaning pad having a hole, the corona wire extending through the hole. According to a further aspect, a cleaning mechanism for cleaning the surface of a corona wire within a corona charger is provided having a cleaning pad, a corona wire passing through the cleaning pad and positioning the cleaning pad in at least one direction lateral to the corona wire, and a holding member holding the cleaning pad without restraining the cleaning pad in the at least one direction lateral to the corona wire.

A mechanism for automatically cleaning the surface of a corona wire within a corona charger is described, wherein the a cleaning assembly includes a cleaning pad mounted within a pad holder, the cleaning pad wrapped around a substantial portion of a circumference of the corona wire for wiping the surface of the corona wire. The cleaning mechanism also includes means for holding the cleaning assembly within the corona charger in association with the corona wire, means, associated with the holding means, for moving the holding means linearly along the length of the corona wire, and means for automatically selectively activating the moving means to move the holding means such that the cleaning assembly is moved to clean the corona wire. In one embodiment, the cleaning assembly includes at least one finishing stone mounted to a stone holder, wherein the finishing stone engages the surface of the corona wire.

Transfer roller cleaning

A support and tensioning device for an elongated corona generating electrode includes a corona charger shield member that includes a first set of wall members for serving as a shield for a corona generating electrode. The shield member includes a second set of wall members shaped to define a recess formed at one end of the shield member for receiving therein a plunger member and a spring. The recess includes an inner positioned land for engaging a head end of the spring. The second set of wall members define the recess and include walls located to define a key slot opening which extends in a longitudinal direction of the shield member. A spring resides in the recess and engages the land to restrict movement of the spring within the recess. A hollow plunger member has a generally cylindrical sidewall for supporting the plunger for rotational movement in the recess and a land on or near a head end portion of the plunger member engages a tail end of the spring. The plunger member includes a wall having a slug receiving opening for receiving a slug formed on one end of the corona electrode and a slot extends from the slug receiving opening in the wall towards the head end portion of the plunger member. A key extends radially from the generally cylindrical sidewall and is located within the key slot opening for sliding movement therein to permit tensioning of the corona electrode. The recess receives the plunger member to permit rotation of the plunger member about the axis of rotation of the generally cylindrical wall to locate the key in the key slot opening to lock the plunger member into the corona charger shield member.

Charger wire tensioning mounting mechanism and method of using

A corona charger and integral latch member device includes a corona charger having a longitudinally ending wall and a corona generating electrode extending generally parallel with the longitudinally extending wall and spaced a predetermined distance therefrom. A latch member has a portion integrally molded with the wall proximate one end of the charger to define part of a bearing surface for engaging a first axially directed member of a roller. The bearing surface is spaced from the wall so as to determine a location of the corona-generating electrode relative to the axially directed member.

A mechanism for mounting a transfer assembly in a reproduction apparatus, the reproduction apparatus having a transfer assembly including an electrically biased transfer roller for effecting transfer of pigmented marking particle images from a dielectric member to receiver members. The transfer assembly mounting mechanism includes a tie bar weldment for supporting the transfer assembly within the reproduction apparatus. A bracket, coupled to the transfer assembly, connects the tie bar weldment to the transfer assembly such that the transfer roller of the transfer assembly is castered and gimbaled.

A reproduction apparatus including a transfer drum for electrostatic transfer of a toner image from an image bearing member, and a transfer drum cleaning mechanism. The transfer drum cleaning mechanism comprises a member for wiping the surface of the transfer drum to remove residual toner and debris therefrom. The wiper is selectively movable into operative relation with the transfer drum surface. A blade member is provided for removing toner and debris from the wiper. The blade member is resiliently urged into association with the wiper under substantially uniform load.

In electrographic apparatus a latent image on a flexible photoconductor is developed with toner particles at a development station and subsequently transferred to a receiver sheet, such as a copy sheet, and then fused to the sheet. Sometimes unwanted particles are on the photoconductor, including the area where an image is to be developed on the photoconductor. These particles are removed by a magnetic brush system located closely adjacent the surface of the photoconductor prior to the charging station. By means of a pair of tapered skis the cleaning pressure across the photoconductor is maintained at a uniform pressure during cleaning of the photoconductor so that the photoconductor is uniformly cleaned.

A particulate material collection bottle for a reproduction apparatus includes an opening for receiving a tube through which particulate material is fed. A detent at the opposite end of the bottle from the opening fits in a complementary detent in the receiving apparatus to wedge the bottle between the detent and the tube. To permit the opening to receive a barb on the tube it is oblong in shape and has a compressible seal around its exterior. Recessed rib portions of opposing side walls form a handle to assist insertion of the bottle in the apparatus. A projection from one wall of the apparatus is positioned to activate a sensing means to indicate the presence of the bottle in its appropriate position. A foldable paper seal is positioned below the opening. It can be folded across the opening after a full bottle has been removed.
