A method of producing surface data from electronic polygonal data is disclosed. The method includes accessing the polygonal data with a computer, the polygonal data defining a mesh of polygonal data points and including a plurality of vertices, and where the polygonal data describes an object. The method also includes generating a plurality of bounded areas, each including one or more vertices of the polygonal data, expanding a plurality of the bounded areas by adding a plurality of vertices thereto, generating a surface for each of the expanded bounded areas based on the vertices of the expanded bounded areas, generating the surface data based at least in part on the surfaces, and storing the surface data in a computer readable data storage.

Methods and systems for generating surfaces from polygonal data

Systems and methods of updating graphical objects are disclosed. The methods and systems receive polygonal data which describe discrete points on an object. A control mesh and a smoothed version of the control mesh are simultaneously displayed. When the control mesh is edited, the smoothed version is automatically updated by smoothing only a portion of the edited control mesh to generate a smoothed section, and replacing a portion of the smoothed version with at least a selected portion of the smoothed section.

Systems and methods of updating graphical objects

A method of generating a design for a device is disclosed. The method includes electronically accessing a reference geometry representing the topology, and electronically accessing a source polygonal data model, where the source polygonal data model includes a plurality of source vertices. The method also includes modifying position characteristics of one or more of the source vertices, where the source vertices are modified so that after the source polygonal data model is subdivided, vertices in the subdivided polygonal data model corresponding with the modified source vertices conform to the reference geometry. The method also includes subdividing the source polygonal data model having the modified source vertices to generate the design, where subdividing the source polygonal data model causes vertices in the design to be positioned such that the design conforms with the reference geometry at least partly because of the modified position characteristics of the modified source vertices.

Constraint of a subdivided model

Methods and systems of editing an electronic geometric model are disclosed. The method includes receiving a first indication which indicates that a portion of the polygonal data is to be modified, and moving a first vertex of the plurality of vertices from a first subdivision position defined by a subdivision algorithm to a second position. The movement of the first vertex from the first subdivision position to the second position results in a modification of the polygonal data. The method also includes generating a first vector identifying the movement of the first vertex from the first subdivision position to the second position, which first vector is defined by an initial point at the first subdivision position of the first vertex and a terminal point at the second position of the of the first vertex, and associating the first vector with the subdivision position of the first vertex.

Methods and systems for multilevel editing of subdivided polygonal data

A method and system for graphic manipulation is provided. The graphic manipulation can be performed using a graphic manipulator that can have three mutually perpendicular axes indicators and a plurality of action icons associated with one or more of the axes. The graphic manipulator can be oriented with respect to axes of the object being manipulated. Based on the specific orientation of the graphic manipulator, and based on the selection of portions of the manipulated object some of the axis indicators and the plurality of action icons can be displayed and/or not displayed.

The polygonal data may be edited and a new BREP object created based on the edited polygonal data. The new BREP object may be automatically modified by automatically reperforming the recorded modification operations.

Methods and systems for generating continuous surfaces from polygonal data

The invention relates to a method and apparatus for tracking and modifying the accumulated error and the current operational tolerance of each topological entity in a geometric model of a three dimensional object. Each topological entity has assigned to it a Mintol value and a Maxtol value, Mintol represents the current accumulated error associated with the entity. Maxtol represents the operational tolerance of the entity for future operations. The Mintol value for an entity is set and occasionally adjusted so that it comprises a volume which encompasses all other entities adjacent to the particular entity. With respect to Maxtol, when two entities are within a distance from each other which is less than the sum of the Maxtols of the two entities, the two entities can be combined. Maxtol is adjusted whenever Mintol is adjusted so as to remain larger than Mintol and whenever a new entity is created by the combination of old entities, so as to encompass the Maxtols of the two old entities.

Topology based tolerancing for geometric modeling operations

An information processing system performs boundary evaluation in a non-manifold environment. The system may be used for representation of objects in three dimensions, in a very general manner. Objects are represented by merging boundary representations of constituent sub objects, and selecting portions of the resulting merge boundary representation. Selection is based on criteria applied to a containment history of each portion of the merged boundary representation. A data structure suitable for boundary evaluation in a non-manifold environment includes a constructive solid geometry tree and a boundary representation. The boundary representation further includes boundary descriptions, a list of regions, containment histories of each region and a mark indicative of selection or non-selection of each region.
