A utility vehicle includes a frame assembly, a plurality of ground-engaging members supporting the frame assembly, and a powertrain assembly operably coupled to the ground-engaging members and including a prime mover and a continuously variable transmission. Additionally, the utility vehicle includes an operator defined by a portion of the frame assembly and including seating for at least an operator. The utility vehicle also includes an electrical assembly comprising an electric motor operably coupled to the continuously variable transmission. The electric motor is positioned rearward of the operator area.

An electric motor includes: a housing having a first rotor bearing and a stator support surface; a cantilever stator that includes a lamination stack, a first side of the lamination stack abutting the stator support surface and a second side of the lamination stack abutting a stator endbell that has a second rotor bearing, wherein the cantilever stator is held by way of tie rods attaching the stator endbell to the housing; and a rotor in the cantilever stator, the rotor held by the first and second rotor bearings.

A liquid cooling system for an electric motor includes: a pump for liquid to cool the electric motor; a heat exchanger that removes heat from the liquid; a manifold extending above a stator of the electric motor, the manifold receiving the liquid under pressure and having a first opening that directs a first liquid jet onto the stator; and a first tray above first end turns of the stator, the manifold having a second opening that directs a second liquid jet onto the first tray, the first tray having a third opening that performs gravity-fed liquid distribution onto the first end turns.

An integrated drive system assembly is provided that combines an electric motor, a power inverter assembly and a gearbox into a single, multi-piece enclosure. Combining these components into a single enclosure reduces weight, reduces drive system complexity, reduces system volume, simplifies assembly integration into an electric vehicle, reduces manufacturing cost, allows the flexible and lengthy electrical cables between the power inverter and the electric motor to be replaced with short, low loss, rigid bus bars, and simplifies component cooling by allowing the use of a common thermal management system, i.e., a mutual thermal management system. The common thermal management system includes a liquid coolant loop that is thermally coupled to the electric motor, the power inverter assembly and the gearbox.

A thermal management system is provided that minimizes the effects of thermal runaway within a battery pack, the system using an integrated battery venting assembly comprised of an integrated exhaust port, a valve retention plate that covers the exhaust port and includes a plurality of retention plate ports, and a plurality of valves that are configured to seal the retention plate ports under normal conditions and unseal the retention plate ports during thermal runaway. As hot gas passes through the retention plate ports, the plate is configured to melt and be ejected, thereby allowing subsequent hot gas to pass through the larger exhaust port. A perforated cover plate may be used to protect the external surfaces of the retention plate and valves. An internally mounted exhaust guide may be used to direct the flow of hot gas expelled during the thermal runaway event.
