A protective device structure for a vehicle is provided that includes an outer surface or shell attached to or otherwise disposed upon a vehicle that covers a top edge of a vehicle to absorb impact. The protective device can include a compressible portion disposed in a cavity defined between the outer shell and the vehicle proximate to the top front wall of the vehicle.

Resilient front protective vehicle device having aerodynamic benefit

The innovation includes a resilient or flexible skirt panel assembly having an integral bracing system. In operation, the bracing system need not attach to a trailer base rail. The innovation includes straight, straight-angled and curved skirt panel orientations. Additionally, angled braces, 'v-braces,' 'v-wings,' and integral rib bracing mechanisms are included. In aspects, the skirt panel and bracing mechanisms can absorb (or bend) under force while effectively having a &#x2018;memory&#x2019; to return to their original shape upon removal of the force. The skirt assembly can include a hem along the bottom edge of the skirt panel thereby enhancing performance and longevity of the assembly. Additionally, an 'anti-skid' clamping assembly can be employed to connect the skirt assemblies to the trailer I-beam, base rail or cross-members.

Aerodynamic skirt assembly

A protective device for a cargo carrier is provided that includes a deflective portion disposed proximate to an intersection between a top surface of a cargo deck and an interior surface of a wall of a cargo carrying vehicle. The deflective portion includes a beveled part and a convex part connected to the beveled part that deflects objects from an interior surface of the wall of the cargo carrier.

An aerodynamic resistance reduction system for a vehicle is provided and includes a pair of vertical panels pivotally attached to a rear end adjacent to rear vertical edges of a vehicle, a first horizontal panel assembly pivotally attached to a top end to each of the pair of vertical panels and pivotally attached to the rear end adjacent to a top horizontal edge of the vehicle, and a second horizontal panel assembly pivotally attached adjacent to an inside surface of each of the pair of side panels, the second horizontal panel assembly being disposed between the first horizontal panel assembly and a lower edge of the rear end of the vehicle.

A thermoplastic composite liner for use as an inner wall of a trailer. The thermoplastic composite liner includes a glass reinforced thermoplastic sheet permanently affixed to a glass reinforced thermoplastic scuff panel along a length of the scuff panel by ultrasonic welding. The scuff panel is positioned relative to the thermoplastic sheet such that an edge portion of the thermoplastic sheet overlaps an edge portion of the scuff panel along the length of the scuff panel, the ultrasonic welding forming a weld joint between the overlapping edge portions of the thermoplastic sheet and the scuff panel along the length of the scuff panel. Preferably, the thermoplastic sheet and the scuff panel are fabricated of fiberglass reinforced plastic, such as polypropylene resin reinforced with glass fiber and the glass reinforced thermoplastic scuff panel includes fibrous material on one side of the scuff panel, the scuff panel being positioned such that the fibrous material side of the panel faces the thermoplastic sheet during the ultrasonic welding.
