A system for sanding a surface includes a sanding tool, a robotic manipulator to move the sanding tool relative to the surface, and a control unit operatively coupled with the sanding tool and the robotic manipulator. The control unit is operable to: (1) move the sanding tool to a sanding position relative to the surface in which an abrasive surface is in contact with the surface and a sanding force is approximately normal to the surface; (2) set one or more sanding parameters corresponding to a model material removal rate; (3) monitor one or more of the sanding parameters; (4) determine an actual material removal rate, based on one or more of the sanding parameters being monitored; and (5) modify one or more of the sanding parameters until the actual material removal rate is approximately equal to the model material removal rate.

Systems and methods for sanding a surface of a structure

A rotor comprises a disk having a rim. The rim has an axial face facing one of a forward or rearward direction. The rim defines a circumferential groove. A damper engages with the rim at both the axial face and the circumferential groove. The disk includes a rotor hub having a hub inner surface facing a longitudinal axis about which the rotor hub rotates. The rim is spaced radially outwardly relative to the hub inner surface. The axial face extends radially inwardly from the rim to the hub inner surface. The circumferential groove is formed within the hub inner surface. The damper comprises a split ring damper with a first leg mounted within the circumferential groove and a second leg that extends from the first leg, surrounds a radial lip of the hub inner surface, and extends radially outwardly to contact the axial face. An integrally bladed rotor is also disclosed.

A Rotor includes a disk having a rim with an axial face, the rim defines a circumferential groove. A damper engaged with the rim at both the axial face and the circumferential groove.

A stationary labyrinth seal system includes a seal housing having an annular cavity, a plurality of damping devices, and a retaining ring. The damping devices are positioned within the annular cavity and are maintained within the annular cavity by the retaining ring.

A damper for reducing vibrations in an integrally bladed turbine disk is provided. The damper includes an annular member and a plurality of fingers. The annular member is configured so that it is coupled to a face of the integrally bladed turbine disk. The plurality of fingers are circumferentially spaced around the annular member. Each of the fingers includes a base portion which is coupled to the annular member and extends radially therefrom. Each of the fingers is tangentially movable relative to the annular member when the turbine disk vibrates in a diametral mode shape such that the plurality of fingers contacts a surface of the turbine disk to absorb vibrations.

An improved frictional damper for a rotor blade is positioned inside a cavity in the airfoil section of the blade. The cavity includes an elongated, generally radially-extending opening that divides the airfoil into two sections and an elongated opening transverse to and intersecting the radial opening. A damper placed within the cavity frictionally engages the resulting sections of the airfoil, thereby reducing the vibratory stresses on the blade as a whole.

A turbine blade assembly for a turbine assembly includes a turbine blade having a turbine blade damper cavity formed therein and stranded wire cable positioned within the turbine blade damper cavity. The stranded wire cable is maintained in the damper cavity during operation of the turbine blade assembly. It reduces vibration of the turbine blade assembly during operation by dissipating energy by friction between the stranded wire cable and the internal surface of the blade that defines the damper cavity. It also dissipates energy by friction between adjacent wires within the stranded wire cable.

A turbine blade assembly for a turbine assembly includes a turbine blade having a turbine blade damper cavity formed therein and a plurality of pins positioned within the turbine blade damper cavity. The pins are maintained in the damper cavity during operation of the turbine blade assembly. They reduce vibration of the turbine blade assembly during operation by dissipating energy by friction between adjacent pins and between the pins and the internal surface of the blade that defines the damper cavity.

An umbrella holder comprising a clamp mechanism; a right/left angular adjustment mechanism, a forward/rearward angular adjustment mechanism; a length adjustment mechanism; and an umbrella shaft and handle securing mechanism. The clamp mechanism includes an upper and lower jaw member, an upper and lower resilient clamp pad, and a clamp screw mechanism. Each upper and lower jaw member is provided with a clamp channel that is covered with the upper or lower resilient clamp pad, respectively. The clamp channels are oriented in opposed relationship and the clamp screw mechanism threadable engages the lower jaw member and rotatably engages the upper jaw member in a manner such that rotation of the clamp screw mechanism causes the upper and lower jaw to be forced together or apart depending on the direction of rotation of the clamp screw mechanism. The umbrella shaft and handle securing mechanism includes a shaft channel clamp and a handle strap assembly positioned below the shaft channel clamp. The shaft channel clamp includes a channel member having an elongated channel that is covered with resilient padding and sized to receive therein a portion of the shaft of an umbrella. A compression member rotatably connected to a shaft clamp screw mechanism is positioned within the elongated channel. The compression member has a resilient pad covering the compression surface thereof. The compression member is preferably elongated and can also have a curved channelized surface if desired. The handle strap assembly includes a flexible strap having an adjustable securing mechanism.
