A pair of mating magnetic rings are arranged in a pattern wherein the magnetic fields of the rings act on each other in a manner so that when one ring is rotated, the other ring follows in rotating fashion until a predetermined torque level is reached, after which the other ring will slip in reaction to the opposing field.

Frictionless journal take-up clutch

A ribbon cassette is fastened on one side of a printer and is operator reloadable. The endless ribbon is loaded in coil form and is driven from the cassette in a path past the printing station of the printer and back into the cassette where it assumes a random form corresponding to a stuffing type cassette.

Reloadable ribbon cassette

A stepping motor drives an input shaft in a predetermined clockwise or counterclockwise direction and a pressure roller shaft is movable into engagement with rollers on the input shaft. The center roller of the input shaft is movable out of engagement with the center roller of the pressure shaft to permit driving of journal paper in a first direction, form paper in either a first or a second direction dependent upon the direction of rotation of the input shaft and journal paper along with form paper in the first direction.

Selective feeding of record media

Paper or like record media from a supply roll is driven past a printing station and is rewound on a rotatable core member which is movable away from a drive roller against the bias of a pair of springs. The roller drives the core member through engagement with the record media thereon, the core not being independently driven, so that the increase in diametric size of the record media on the core member has no effect on the index length or linear motion of such media throughout the overall driving thereof.

Record media rewind mechanism

A tie bar is secured to the drive block of each of two or more print heads for connecting the heads and for spacing thereof at a desired distance. The tie bar serves as a portion of the drive means for moving the print heads, which are slidably supported on a shaft, in side-to-side travel.

Spacing and connecting a plurality of print heads

A frame member carries a single piece which provides the several functions of locating, retaining, and bearing a grooved shaft or like member and wherein the piece includes an internal ring for mating with such grooved shaft.
