A system for measuring the conductivity of a flexible media positioned between a conductive backing and a conductive roller, wherein the conductive roller contacts the flexible media in a roller contact region. A pressure control mechanism presses the conductive roller against the second surface of the flexible media with a specified contact pressure, and a motion control system provide a relative motion between the conductive roller and the flexible media. A resistance measuring system connected to the conductive roller and the conductive backing measures the conductivity of the flexible media within the roller contact region. A data recording system records the measured conductivity of the media as a function of position.

Media conductivity measurement system

An inking system for use in transferring ink to a flexographic printing plate in a flexographic printing system includes an anilox member having an ink transfer zone located between first and second recessed bearing contact zones. A radius of the recessed bearing contact zones is less than a radius of the ink transfer zone by at least 0.100 inches. An ink tray includes a floor and first and second end walls. Bearings are mounted outside of the end walls which engage with the first and second bearing contact zones, respectively, thereby positioning the ink tray assembly in a specified position relative to the anilox member. Upper edges of the end walls extend into the recessed bearing contact zones.

Low-volume flexographic inking system

An inking system for use in transferring ink to a gravure printing surface in a gravure printing system includes a gravure cylinder r having a printing zone located between first and second recessed bearing contact zones. A radius of the recessed bearing contact zones is less than a radius of the printing zone by at least 0.100 inches. An ink tray includes a floor and first and second end walls. Bearings are mounted outside of the end walls which engage with the first and second bearing contact zones, respectively, thereby positioning the ink tray assembly in a specified position relative to the gravure cylinder. Upper edges of the end walls extend into the recessed bearing contact zones.

Low-volume gravure inking system

A method for adjusting an extent of contact between a fountain roller mounted within a pivotable ink pan and an anilox roller in a flexographic printing system, the pivotable ink pan being adapted to pivot around a pivot axis disposed proximate to a first end of the pivotable ink pan. The pivotable ink pan is positioned to provide a predetermined gap between the anilox roller and the fountain roller by inserting a shim between the fountain roller and the anilox roller. The position of the pivotable ink pan is adjusted by adjusting a height of a distal portion of the pivotable ink pan by a predetermined amount that is known to close the predetermined gap to a desired extent. The position of the pivotable ink pan is then locked such that the distal portion of the pivotable ink pan is maintained at the adjusted height.

Roller contact adjustment for flexographic printing system

A flexographic printing system including an ink pan configured to pivot around a pivot element having a pivot axis. A first bracket affixed to the ink pan is configured to rest on the pivot element, and a second bracket is affixed to the ink pan in an adjustable position and is configured to constrain motion of the ink pan to a pivoting motion around the pivot axis. A fountain roller is mounted on the ink pan and is at least partially immersed in the ink in the ink pan for transferring the ink to an anilox roller having a patterned surface for transferring a controlled amount of ink from the ink pan to the flexographic printing plate. A height adjustment mechanism is provided for adjusting a height of a distal portion of the ink pan to control the extent of contact between the fountain roller and the anilox roller.

A liquids mixing and dispensing apparatus and method utilize a plurality of liquid supply modules to feed simultaneously charges of a plurality of admixable liquids at predetermined volume flow rates to a mixer to form a batch of a mixture of the liquids, such as a photographic emulsion mixture, in which the liquids are in a predetermined volume ratio. As it is formed, the mixture is delivered to a storage conduit connected to a dispenser, for later dispensing of a discrete volume thereof as a coating onto a moving web by feeding a purge liquid to the mixer. Each module has a piston and cylinder unit with an inlet and outlet (a cylinder port conduit) connected to one end of a tube having a volume at least as large as the maximum volume of the cylinder swept by its piston when driven by an associated motor. A valve selectively connects the other end of the tube either to a liquid source or to the mixer. The ratio of the intermediate or maximum volumes swept by the pistons when concordantly driven by their motors is selected to provide the desired volume ratio of the liquids in the mixture.
