A tool for use in a borehole in a geological formation may include a chassis, a drill collar surrounding the chassis, a port plug coupled between the drill collar and the chassis, RF antennas carried by the drill collar, and a multi-chip module (MCM) electronics package(s). The electronics package(s) may include a hermetically sealed electronics housing positioned between the chassis and the drill collar, a substrate within the electronics housing, RF transmitter circuitry on the substrate to cooperate with at least one first RF antenna to transmit RF signals into the geological formation, and RF receiver circuitry on the substrate to cooperate with at least one second RF antenna to receive RF signals from the geological formation. Furthermore, an electronics housing mount may couple the electronics housing with the port plug, and the electronics housing mount may have a passageway extending therethrough for receiving the port plug.

Downhole tool and electronics packaging configuration therefor

Improved receiver antennas are disclosed for long offset tensor induction army logging tools. The disclosed antennas include a bobbin which accommodates a ferromagnetic core. The outer surface of the bobbin is wrapped around a binding so that winding is thicker or includes more turns towards a center of the bobbin and is thinner or includes less turns towards the outer ends of the bobbin. The result is that the primary winding with a curved or parabolic profile that enhances the effective magnetic permeability and magnetic moment of the antenna. A secondary winding may also be utilized for flux feedback compensation. The elimination of winding turns towards the ends of the magnetic coil result in reduced DC resistance and the reduction in parasitic capacitance of the antennas. The disclosed antennas may be used in x-y-z receiver arrays.

Antennas for deep induction array tools with increased sensitivities

A well logging tool and method are disclosed comprising a conductive mandrel, an antenna array disposed around the conductive mandrel, wherein the antenna array comprises a plurality of antennas disposed on insulating supports and at least one contact spacer, the at least one contact spacer having at least one conductor channel having a contact assembly disposed therein, a sleeve disposed over the antenna array, wherein the sleeve includes at least one electrode assembly, the at least one electrode and the contact assembly adapted to provide a radially conductive path from an exterior of the well logging tool to the conductive mandrel and wherein the electrode assembly comprises a first conductor exposed to the exterior of the well logging tool and at least one second conductor conductively connected to the first conductor and exposed to an inner surface of the sleeve, wherein at least one of the first conductor or the second conductor being in sealed contact with the sleeve to prevent the passage of fluid through the sleeve.

An apparatus for stripping an insulated wire includes a resistive heater element having a first end, a second end, and a coil formed between the first end and the second end. The coil has an inner diameter that is large enough to receive a section of the insulated wire. The apparatus further includes an electronic circuit connected to the first and second ends to deliver power to the resistive heater element such that the coil uniformly distributes heat about the section of the insulated wire to thermally decompose insulation on the section of insulated wire.

Method and apparatus for well bore hole-finding with simultaneous

A transmitter for an induction well logging tool, adapted to be disposed in the borehole of an oil well, develops an output signal for energizing the borehole formation which inherently consists of six separate signal components, the six components including four primary signal components which simultaneously energize the borehole formation inducing in the formation four primary eddy currents. These four primary eddy currents are detected by the array induction tool receiver, the received signals being used to determine the resistivity and conductivity of the borehole formation.

A method and apparatus is disclosed for electrically measuring the inside diameter of a metallic pipe, such as oil or gas well casing. The transimpedance of two coaxial coils within the pipe is determined and then resolved into its inphase and quadrature components. The difference of the magnitudes of the two components is equal to an expansion equation which is a function of the inside diameter of the pipe and a factor proportional to the ratio of the permeability to the conductivity of the pipe. The inphase component of the impedance is equal to a second expansion equation which is a function of the inside diameter of the pipe and the factor proportional to the ratio of the permeability to the conductivity of the pipe. The two equations are solved simultaneously to generate signals for the pipe's inside diameter and the ratio of permeability to conductivity.
