An RF expansion joint for an electrically sealed enclosure having first and second wall members which are movable relative to each other. The joint includes guide means for maintaining the wall members in alignment during movement. The wall members each have a shielding material on their outer surfaces with a shield extension extending from the shielding of one wall member and overlying the shielding material of the adjacent wall member and an electrical sealing means is positioned between the extension and the shielding material over which it lies.

An electrically conductive rectangular housing contains a conductive elastomeric tube with a resilient core material. The housing also contains an inflatable seal which is preferably a flattened inflatable elastomeric member. Inflation of the elastomeric member causes the minor axis of the seal to become elongate, compressing the tube into conductive contact with sections of the enclosure and forcing a part of the tube from a slot in the housing and into contact with the surface of a conductive section of the enclosure disposed opposite the slot. Upon deflation, the seal returns to its uninflated shape due to its 'memory' characteristic, thus permitting the conductive tube to withdraw from contact with the conductive section opposite the slot and assume its unextruded shape.

Sealing apparatus for radio frequency shielding enclosure

An inflatable gasket provides an electrically conductive seal between conductive sections of a shielding enclosure. A flattened inflatable elastomeric tube is disposed within a flexible, conductive shielding medium mounted on or near the periphery of a conductive section of the enclosure. Inflation of the elastomeric member causes the member to elongate in the direction of the minor axis, thereby urging the shielding medium into conductive contact with adjacent sections of the enclosure. Deflation of the elastomeric member withdraws the shielding member from contact with at least one such section as a result of the elastomeric member returning to its uninflated shape due to its 'memory' characteristics. In the preferred embodiment the shielding medium comprises a loosely fitting, flexible, conductive sheath.

Inflatable gasket for radio frequency shielding enclosure

A fluidized bed heat exchanger is provided in which air is passed through a bed of particulate material containing fuel. A steam-water natural circulation system is provided for heat exchange and the housing of the heat exchanger has a water-wall type construction. Vertical in-bed heat exchange tubes are provided and the air distributor is water-cooled. A water-cooled dust hopper is provided in the housing to collect particulates from the combustion gases and separate the combustion zone from a volume within said housing in which convection heat exchange tubes are provided to extract heat from the exiting combustion gases.
