Macroporous-structured polymer aerogels

An aerogel that includes an open-cell structure and a polymer matrix is disclosed. The polymer matrix can include a branched polyimide polymer having a degree of branching of at least 0.5. The polymer matrix can contain less than 5% by weight of crosslinked polymers.

Highly branched non-crosslinked aerogel, methods of making, and uses thereof

A laminate comprises one or more electrically-conductive layers and one or more electrically-insulative layers coupled to the electrically-conductive layer(s). Each of the electrically-conductive layer(s) can comprise at least 90% by weight of copper. Each of the electrically-insulative layer(s) can comprise a layer of polymeric aerogel. For at least one of opposing front and back surfaces of the laminate, at least a portion of the surface is defined by one of the electrically-conductive layer(s).

Aerogel filled polymeric composites, methods of making and uses thereof are described. A polymeric composite material can include a continuous polymeric matrix and a discontinuous phase that includes a plurality of polymeric aerogel particles dispersed within the continuous polymeric matrix.

Thermally treated polyamic amide aerogel

A fiber-reinforced aerogel is disclosed. The aerogel can include a porous organic polymer matrix and fibers included in the porous organic polymer matrix. The aerogel can include a thermal conductivity of less than or equal to 60 mWIm·K at a temperature of 20° C., at least a bimodal pore size distribution with a first mode of pores having an average pore size of less than or equal to 50 nanometers (nm) and a second mode of pores having an average pore size of greater than 50 nm, and a planar shape having a thickness of 5 millimeters (mm) or less and is capable of being rolled up into a roll, wherein the fibers form a woven fiber matrix.

Fiber-reinforced organic polymer aerogel

An aerogel that includes an open-cell structured polymer matrix is disclosed. The aerogel includes 5 wt. % to 50 wt. % of a polyamic amide polymer, based on the total weight of the aerogel, pores and at least 90% of the pore volume of the aerogel is made up of macropores, a porosity of at least 50%, as measure according to ASTM D4404-10, a density of 0.01 g/cmto 0.5 g/cm, and the aerogel is thermally stable to resist browning at 330° C.

Polymer aerogel with improved mechanical and thermal properties

A composite comprising a non-fibrous organic polymer aerogel layer having a first surface and an opposing second surface and a support layer having a first surface and an opposing second surface is disclosed. An interface can be formed between a portion of the first surface of the aerogel layer and a portion of the second surface of the support layer such that the aerogel and support layers are attached to one another. A majority of the volume of the aerogel layer does not have to include the support layer. The composite can have a thickness of 3 mils to 16 mils.

The reinforced aerogels include a fiber-reinforced organic polymer matrix having an at least bimodal pore size distribution with a first mode of pores having an average pore size of less than or equal to 50 nanometers (nm) and a second mode of pores having an average pore size of greater than 50 nm and a thermal conductivity of less than or equal to 30 mW/m&#xb7;K at a temperature of 20&#xb0; C.

Internally reinforced aerogels, articles of manufacture and uses thereof are described. An internally reinforced aerogel includes an aerogel having a support at least partially penetrating the aerogel and having the aerogel penetrating the porous structure of the support.
