The present disclosure relates to a hydraulic fuse comprising: a fuse body defining a plenum, the plenum comprising: an inlet configured to couple to a first fluid location; and an outlet configured to couple to a second fluid location. The hydraulic fuse further comprises a first fuse element arranged to close the inlet, the first fuse element configured to open the inlet when a pressure differential between the first fluid location and the plenum reaches a first threshold; and a second fuse element arranged to close the outlet, the second fuse element configured to open the outlet when a pressure differential between the plenum and the second fluid location reaches a second threshold, wherein the first threshold is higher than the second threshold.

Hydraulic fuse

A method is provided of controlling a gas turbine having a shaft connecting a compressor to a turbine, as well as having a reheat system, and a gas turbine. The method includes the steps of: operating the engine using the reheat system to provide a mass flow rate of reheat fuel into a gas flow of the gas turbine engine downstream of an exit of the turbine; detecting a shaft break event in the shaft; and in response to this detection, maintaining the mass flow rate of the reheat fuel being provided into the gas flow downstream of the turbine exit, whereby the maintained mass flow rate of reheat fuel raises a back pressure downstream of the turbine and thereby reduces a rotational speed of the turbine.

Gas turbine engine shaft break mitigation

A variable stator vane in a gas turbine engine has a journal provided with a circumferential recess. An aperture extends from the recess to a face of the journal directed towards the aerofoil portion of the vane. In operation of the engine, heated air, for example from a downstream compressor stage of the engine is admitted to the recess and flows through the aperture to, for example, the pressure surface of the aerofoil portion. The aerofoil portion is thereby heated, so preventing ice accretion on the vane.

Variable stator vane

A variable stator vane assembly for a gas turbine engine has a projection protruding from the upper stem of the vane and which engages an aperture in the vane lever to provide a visual indication of correct alignment between the lever and the vane.

An intake duct for a compressor comprises an inlet and an outlet means. The duct has a serpentine path. The outlet means comprises a first outlet and a second outlet. The duct further comprises at least one grille member configured to prevent the passage of objects over a predetermined size which is positioned in the duct out of the line of sight when viewed through the inlet. The duct is shaped such that in operation objects passing through the at least one grille member greater than a predetermined mass are directed towards the first outlet and the remainder of the objects are directed towards the second outlet. The first outlet leads overboard and/or to a trap and the second outlet leads to a compressor.
