A method for preparing a substituted fuel additive d is provided. The method comprises carrying out the following reaction: (a) (b) (d), The fuel additive d may be used as an octane-boosting additive in a fuel for a spark-ignition internal combustion engine. 

Methods for preparing fuel additives

In processes for the hydrolysis of a methyl acetate with at least one of water and methanol in the presence of at least one Br&#xf8;nsted acid catalyst to produce acetic acid the performance of the catalyst is improved by using a methyl acetate feed in which the total amount of acetaldehyde and 1,1 dimethoxyethane impurities is maintained at 100 ppm wt or less calculated as mass equivalents of acetaldehyde.

Catalytic performance in processes for preparing acetic acid

Method for the selective dealumination of the aluminum within the 12-membered ring channels of a zeolite of structure type MOR. The method includes the steps of (i) loading a MOR zeolite in the hydrogen or ammonium form with a univalent metal to obtain a metal loaded zeolite; and (ii) treating the metal loaded zeolite with steam at a temperature of at least 400&#xb0; C. to obtain a metal loaded dealuminated zeolite.

Carbonylation process

Process for the manufacture of methyl acetate by carbonylating a carbonylatable reactant selected from dimethyl ether and dimethyl carbonate containing less than 2.5 wt % water with carbon monoxide in the presence of a mordenite catalyst. The mordenite has been ion-exchanged with at least one Group IB metal, and the molar ratio of the Group IB metal to total aluminum present in the mordenite is in the range 5 to 50 mol %.
