A seal system includes a first annular component having a radially-outer surface with a first threaded portion and a first sealing portion, wherein the first sealing portion has a first angled surface that is oriented at a first angle relative to a vertical axis. The seal system also includes a second annular component having a radially-inner surface with a second threaded portion and a second sealing portion, wherein the second sealing portion has a second angled surface that is oriented at a second angle relative to the vertical axis, and the second angle is different from the first angle. The first annular component and the second annular component are configured to threadably couple to one another via the first threaded portion and the second threaded portion and to form a metal-to-metal seal against one another via the first angled surface and the second angled surface.

Seal system for annular components

Systems and methods presented herein include expanding and collapsing apparatus that include a slips cartridge that is bookended by seal elements. The pressure (e.g., whether from uphole and/or from downhole of the downhole tool) pushes at axial points at which the seal elements abut the slips cartridge. In addition, all of the load is transferred to the wellbore casing, and not to an inner mandrel at all. Specifically, the inner mandrel only experiences the setting force in tension. In addition, the elastomer that is being used is not stretched during expansion, but simply moved as it is expanded.

Expanding and collapsing apparatus having bookend seal cartridges

Embodiments described herein provide an expanding and collapsing apparatus and methods of use. The apparatus includes a plurality of elements assembled together to form a ring structure about a longitudinal axis. The ring structure is operable to be moved between an expanded condition and a collapsed condition by movement of the plurality of elements. At least one set of structural elements are operable to move between the expanded condition and the collapsed condition by movement of a first end in an axial direction, and by movement of a second end in a radial dimension. In certain embodiments, the plurality of elements includes at least one set of structural elements extending longitudinally on the apparatus and operable to slide with respect to one another. Applications of the embodiments described herein include oilfield devices, including anti-extrusion rings, plugs, packers, locks, patching tools, connection systems, and variable diameter tools run in a wellbore.

Expanding and collapsing apparatus with seal pressure equalization

A technique facilitates patching of a tubing (), e.g. casing (), in a downhole environment (). The technique employs a patching system comprising a plurality of expansion rings (). The expansion rings () are moved downhole to a patch zone () along the tubing (). Once in a desired position at the patch zone, the expansion rings () are expanded into engagement with an inner surface of the tubing. For example, the expansion rings may comprise seal elements () and/or anchor elements which are expanded into engagement with the inside surface. The patching system further comprises a patch () which may have a tubular shape. The patch is radially expanded in a manner which maintains a sealing engagement with the plurality of expansion rings () to create a sealed patch across a desired region in the patch zone.

System and methodology for through tubing patching

Embodiments described herein provide a downhole tool (e.g., a retrievable bridge plug) that includes a sealing device and a load retention/equalization mechanism. The sealing device includes an elastomer seal component and an expansion device configured to radially expand outwardly to compress the elastomer seal component against a wellbore casing within which the downhole tool is located. The sealing device further includes lower and upper support barriers configured to radially expand outwardly against the wellbore. The sealing device also includes a seal energizing spring configured to maintain an initial setting force of the elastomer seal component against the wellbore casing. The load retention/equalization mechanism includes a spool/inflation valve configured to direct fluid into an internal volume to inflate the elastomer seal component radially outwardly based on a differential pressure between a first volume uphole relative to the downhole tool and a second volume downhole relative to the downhole tool.

Self-inflating high expansion seal

The invention provides an expanding and collapsing apparatus and methods of use. The apparatus comprises a plurality of elements () assembled together to form a ring structure () around a longitudinal axis. The ring structure is operable to be moved between an expanded condition and a collapsed condition by movement of the plurality of elements. At least one set of structural elements () each having a first end and a second end are operable to move between the expanded condition and the collapsed condition by movement of the first end in an axial direction, and by movement of the second end in a radial dimension. At least one set of elements is operable to be moved by sliding with respect to one another in a direction tangential to a circle concentric with the ring structure. In another aspect, the plurality of elements () comprises at least one set of structural elements () extending longitudinally on the apparatus and operable to slide with respect to one another, wherein the sliding movement in a selected plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis is tangential to a circle in the selected plane and concentric with the longitudinal axis. Applications of the invention include oilfield devices, including anti-extrusion rings, plugs, packers, locks, patching tools, connection systems, and variable diameter tools run in a wellbore.

An impression tool for providing an impression of an object in a borehole includes a block held by a gripper. The block has a plurality of discrete elements that can deform or move so as to create an impression of an impacted object. The bock can be formed of knitted wire mesh. The tool is impacted on an object such that an impression is formed in the block.

A connector comprises a first coupling part having a flat surface with a shaft projecting therefrom; and a second coupling part having a corresponding flat surface and a hole, such that the flat surfaces may be in abutment when the shaft is inserted into the hole and the first coupling part is positioned transverse to the second coupling part. The first coupling part is movable relative to the second coupling part from a position in which the shaft is inserted into the hole to a position in which the coupling parts are held so as to be inseparable by the shaft being captured inside the hole. The first coupling part is rotatable relative to the second coupling part about the shaft when the first coupling part is in the position in which the coupling parts are held so as to be inseparable. The first coupling part and the second coupling part are provided with load transference surfaces arranged to transfer load forces between the coupling members when the first coupling part is rotated relative to the second coupling part to an engaged position.
