A method for preparing a suspension of LDH particles comprising the steps of: preparing LDH precipitates by coprecipitation to form a mixture of LDH precipitates and solution; separating the LDH precipitates from the solution; washing the LDH precipitates to remove residual ions; mixing the LDH precipitates with water; and subjecting the mixture of LDH particles and water to a hydrothermal treatment step by heating to a temperature of from greater than 80&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C. for a period of about 1 hour to about 144 hours to form a well dispersed suspension of LDH particles in water, wherein said LDH particles in suspension comprise platelets having a maximum particle dimension of up to 400 nm.

Preparation of suspensions

A method for preparing a suspension of LDH particles comprises the steps of preparing LDH precipitates by coprecipitation to form a mixture of LDH precipitates and solution; separating the LDH precipitates from the solution; washing the LDH precipitates to remove residual ions; mixing the LDH precipitates with water; and subjecting the mixture of LDH particles and water from step (d) to a hydrothermal treatment step by heating to a temperature of from greater than 80&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C. for a period of about 1 hour to about 48 hours to form a well dispersed suspension of LDH particles in water.

A method for producing a hydrogen enriched fuel and carbon nanotubes includes the steps of providing a flow of methane gas, and providing a catalyst mixture comprising a Fe based catalyst and carbon. The method also includes the steps of pretreating the catalyst mixture using microwave irradiation and exposure to CH, heating the catalyst mixture and the methane gas using microwave irradiation at a selected microwave power, directing the flow of methane gas over the catalyst mixture, and controlling the microwave power to produce a product gas having a selected composition and the carbon nanotubes. For producing multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) only a flow of methane gas into the reactor is required. For producing single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), a combination of hydrogen gas and methane gas into the reactor is required.

A system for producing a hydrogen enriched fuel includes a methane gas source, a reactor containing a catalyst, and a microwave power source configured to heat the catalyst.

Method and system for producing a hydrogen enriched fuel using microwave assisted methane plasma decomposition on catalyst

A method of producing a weakly branched silica membranes coated onto a substrate using a two-step catalysed hydrolysis sol-gel process. A tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS)/ethanol solution is formed and placed in an ice bath. An acid/water solution is formed and added to the TEOS/ethanol solution, to form a TEOS/ethanol/acid/water solution, which inturn is refluxed. A two-step sol is prepared by adding water and nitric acid to the refluxed TEOS/ethanol/acid/water solution and initiating a two-step sol-gel process. From the two-step sol a membrane film layer is deposited on a substrate, for use in a number of applications, including selective separation of gases.
