The disclosure describes techniques for automatically pairing multiple source devices to a sink device in response to a single source device being paired to the source device. For instance, in response to a single source device being manually paired with wireless earbuds, the techniques may automatically pair other source devices that are associated with a common user account. In addition, this disclosure describes techniques for configuring a sink device to periodically broadcast advertisement messages indicating a current state of the sink device, which enables source devices that receive the advertisement message to determine whether to establish a connection with the sink device based on a current state of the sink device.

Remote device pairing

Systems and methods for presence-based application invocation are disclosed. For example, presence of a personal device and/or user associated with a personal device is detected at a primary device. When account data associated with the personal device and the primary device correspond, checks are performed to determine if automatic invocation of an application associated with the personal device should be performed. Those checks include determining whether one or more conditions are satisfied, determining current usage of the application and/or the primary device indicates desirability to automatically invoke the application, and/or whether the application has been enabled for use on the primary device.

Presence-based application invocation

In various examples, audio received from a source device is shared from a first wireless earbud to one or more other wireless earbuds. For example, source-device settings are shared by the first wireless earbud with the one or more other wireless earbuds to facilitate synchronization and passive receipt of data transmitted by the source device. Once the wireless earbuds are synchronized, they may check in with one another in a coordinated manner to share packets that were missed when passively listening to the source device.

Sharing audio from a source device

The disclosure describes techniques for automatically pairing multiple source devices to a sink device in response to a single source device being paired to the source device. Context-based wireless-protocol connections

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for dynamic selection of a primary wireless earbud device. In one embodiment, an example system may include a first wireless earbud device having first memory and at least one first processor configured to access the first memory. The at least one first processor may execute computer-executable instructions to determine a first RSSI value for a first connection to a device, determine a first packet error rate value for the first connection, and determine a first link quality score using the first RSSI value and the first packet error rate value. The at least one first processor may execute computer-executable instructions to determine that the first link quality score is less than or equal to a handover threshold, disconnect from the device, and cause a second wireless earbud device to establish a second connection to the device.

Dynamic selection of primary wireless earbud device

A wireless headphone that receives a device identifier of an electronic device communicatively coupled to the wireless headphone and determines that the electronic device supports dynamic rate switching between a first data rate and a second data rate. The wireless headphone receives data from the electronic device at the second data rate and determines a packet error rate (PER) value associated with receiving the data. The wireless headphone requests the electronic device to transmit data at the second data rate.

Dynamic switching of data rates

Technologies directed to a process of establishing a wireless connection between two devices with out-of-band transport assistance are described herein. In one method, a first device scans for a first message via a first radio. The first message includes information that a second device is using either a first or a second set of frequencies of a page hopping sequence. The first device repeatedly sends, via a second radio, a second message according to only the first or second set specified in the first message. The first device receives, via the second radio at a first frequency of the first or second set, a third message from the second device, via the second radio at the first frequency, a third message comprising additional information that establishes the wireless connection between the first device and the second device via the second radio.

Out-of-band transport assisted fast wireless connection

A system and method includes a first device (e.g., a primary wireless earbud) connected to a second device (e.g., a secondary wireless earbud) using a first wireless connection. The first device is also connected to a third device (e.g., a smartphone or smart watch) using a second wireless connection. The second device receives data, such as packets, sent from the third device to the first device by monitoring the second wireless connection. If the second device does not receive a packet, it informs the first device, which sends the packet to the second device.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for systems and methods for hybrid Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networks. Example devices may include an antenna, memory configured to store computer-executable instructions, and at least one computer processor configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to send a message, at a first time using the antenna, to a plurality of devices in a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh group, the plurality of devices including a first device and a second device, wherein the first device is a first proxy device, receive a first acknowledgment message from the first device at a second time, and receive a second acknowledgment message from the first device at a third time, wherein the second acknowledgment message is sent to the first device by the second device.

A system and method includes a first audio device (e.g., a primary wireless earbud) connected to a second audio-output device (e.g., a secondary wireless earbud) using a first wireless connection. The first audio device is also connected to a user device (e.g., a smartphone or smart watch) using a second wireless connection. The second audio device receives data, such as packets, sent from the third device to the first device by monitoring the second wireless connection. If the second audio device does not determine that the first audio device sent a corresponding acknowledgement message (i.e., the first audio device did not receive a packet), the second audio device sends the acknowledgement message and sends the packet to the first audio device.

Bidirectional sending and receiving of wireless data

A system and method includes a first device (e.g., a primary wireless in-ear device) connected to a second device (e.g., a secondary wireless in-ear device) using a first wireless connection. A system and method includes a first device (e.g., a primary wireless earbud) and a second device (e.g., a secondary wireless earbud). The first device receives audio data from a third device (e.g., a mobile device) and sends the audio data to the second device; the first and second devices output the audio. When the first device detects a wakeword, to reduce use of wireless bandwidth, the first device sends only an indication of duration of playback of the audio data to the second device instead of the audio data. The second device outputs blank audio having a duration corresponding to the received location to stay in sync with the first device. The first device transmits audio data corresponding to the wakeword to the third device.

Using bandwidth-limited audio devices

Technologies for improving airtime for advertisement packet scanning are described. One apparatus includes a processing device, a memory device, a first radio, a second radio, and a single media access control (MAC) device coupled to the first radio and the second radio. The single MAC device assigns a single MAC address to the first radio and the second radio. The first radio receives first data and the second radio received second data and stores the second data in the memory device. The single MAC device processes the first data received from the radio and processes the second data retrieved from the memory device.
