An anthrapyridone composition of the formula: is disclosed, where 'A' and 'B' are independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted cyclic ketone groups having from about 10 to about 20 ring carbon atoms; &#x201c;a&#x201d; is an integer having a value from 0-4, R-Rare monovalent substituents; with the proviso that when &#x201c;a&#x201d; is 0, Ris selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, an alkyl group, a secondary amino group and an aminosulphonyl group; and R-Rare substituents selected form the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, a halogen atom, a cyano group, a carbonyl containing group, an amino group and a sulphonyl-containing group. The anthrapyridones are useful as thermally stable colorants for producing colored polymer resins and articles that require high temperature polymer processing conditions.

Disclosed are compositions comprising at least one [benzo[4,5]imidazo(heterocycle)] compound, said [benzo[4,5]imidazo(heterocycle)] compound selected from the group consisting of structures I and II, wherein Rand Rare independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, electron withdrawing group, organic group, divalent 1,2-cycloalkylidene group, or combinations thereof; 'q' is independently an integer from 1-4, L is a linking group, and 'r' is independently 0 or 1; said at least one [benzo[4,5]imidazo(heterocycle)] compound being present at a concentration sufficient to cause said composition to exhibit upon exposure to an excitation radiation having a wavelength of from about 330 nanometers to about 390 nanometers, a maximum fluorescence emission wavelength of greater than or equal to about 470 nanometers; and a Stokes shift of greater than or equal to about 80 nanometers; wherein the wavelengths are measured in bisphenol A polycarbonate matrix.

Chemical compositions for authenticatable polymers and articles, and authentication methods thereof

In one embodiment, a limited play optical storage medium for data comprises: a reflective layer, a control portion comprising an optically transparent polymeric resin and a light absorbing material, wherein the control portion has a light transmission of greater than or equal to about 70% at 650 nm, a curing index of greater than or equal to about 0.1 and a filtration index of greater than or equal to about 2.5, and wherein the light absorbing material has a minimum extinction coefficient (measured in CHClsolution) at 600 nm of greater than or equal to 1,500 mol&#xb7;cm&#xb7;L, a maximum extinction coefficient (measured in CHClsolution) at 650 nm of less than about 1,000 mol&#xb7;cm&#xb7;L, a ratio of extinction coefficient at 650 nm to 600 nm less than about 0.1, and a reactive layer disposed between the reflective layer and the control portion, wherein the reactive layer is designed to limit the time during which data on the medium (disposed on a side of the reactive layer opposite the control portion), can be accessed after exposure to oxygen.
