A method to store objects in a memory cache is disclosed. A request is received from an application to store an object in a memory cache associated with the application. The object is stored in a cache region of the memory cache based on an identification that the object has no potential for storage in a shared memory cache and a determination that the cache region is associated with a storage policy that specifies that objects to be stored in the cache region are to be stored in a local memory cache and that a garbage collector is not to remove objects stored in the cache region from the local memory cache.

Session handling based on shared session information

Example systems and methods of implementing an abstraction layer for a file repository are presented. In one example, an access request to retrieve an electronic file is received from a requesting device. The request includes an identification of a first storage location in the file repository. In response to the request, the first storage location of the file repository is searched for the electronic file. If the search is successful, the electronic file is retrieved from the file repository at the first storage location. If the search is unsuccessful, a redirection file is accessed in the file repository. The redirection file includes an identification of a second storage location for the electronic, file at a storage site external to the file repository. The electronic file is retrieved from the storage site based on the indication of the second storage location. The retrieved file is transmitted to the requesting device.

File repository abstraction layer

A method is described that involves offering a user different persistent scope choices including: a) internal to a computing system that the deployment descriptor is to be sent to; and, b) external to the computing system that the deployment descriptor is to be sent to. The method also involves offering a user different persistence frequency choices including: a) persisting per request; and, b) persisting per session state information attribute change. The method also involves generating a deployment descriptor that reflects the user's choice of the persistence scope and persistence frequency.

A system and method are described in which session objects are organized and managed within a structured hierarchy of session object storage units, referred to herein as 'session domains.' In an example, a method can include generating a plurality of session objects, defining a plurality of session domains, associating the plurality of session objects with the plurality of session domains, identifying related session domains, and organizing the related session domains within one of a plurality of hierarchy levels. The session objects can store session data defining a state of interaction with clients. The session domains can provide abstract storage for session objects having similar management characteristics. The related session domains can be grouped in hierarchy levels based on one or more related management characteristics of the session objects.

A method is described that involves, at a worker node, receiving a notification of a request from a queue. The notification contains a handle for a shared memory connection. The queue is implemented with a second shared memory connection. The method involves receiving the request from the shared memory through the connection. The method also involves generating a response to the request at the worker node and sending the response over the shared memory connection.

API for worker node retrieval of session request

A system and method are described for managing session lifecycles within a multi-tiered enterprise network. In one embodiment, a plurality of session objects are generated at different layers of the enterprise network in response to a client request. Each of the session objects store session data defining a state of interaction with the client. In addition, one embodiment of the invention manages the lifecycle of a first session object based on corresponding lifecycles of one or more related session objects and also the type of relationship existing between the first session object and the one or more related session objects. In one embodiment, the defined relationship types include strong references, weak references, and soft references.

Session lifecycle management within a multi-tiered enterprise network

A system and method are described in which session objects are organized and managed within a structured hierarchy of session object storage units, referred to herein as 'session domains.' The session domains store session objects sharing one or more related characteristics. In one embodiment, a separate hierarchy of session domains is implemented within each layer of an enterprise application server. For example, in a Java 2 Enterprise Edition ('J2EE') environment, a separate set of hierarchically-arranged session domains are generated for the EJB container, the Web container and the portal container. In addition, in one embodiment of the invention, the lifecycles of each of the session objects are managed based on the relationships between each of the session objects. The relationships may either be explicit or implicit. In the latter case, one embodiment of the invention detects the relationship, automatically declares the relationship, and uses the relationship to manage the lifecycle of the related sessions.

A method is described that involves entering a notification of a request into a queue that supplies request notifications to a first worker node amongst a plurality of worker nodes. The first worker node is targeted to process the request. In response to the first worker node failing before the notification could be serviced from the first queue, the notification is moved from the first queue to a second queue that supplies request notifications to a second worker node amongst the plurality of worker nodes. After servicing the notification from the second queue, the request is transferred to the second worker node. A response to the request is then generated with the second worker node.

Failover protection from a failed worker node in a shared memory system

A method to associate a storage policy with a cache region is disclosed. In this method, a cache region associated with an application is created. The application runs on virtual machines, and where a first virtual machine has a local memory cache that is private to the first virtual machine. The first virtual machine additionally has a shared memory cache that is shared by the first virtual machine and a second virtual machine. Additionally, the cache region is associated with a storage policy. Here, the storage policy specifies that a first copy of an object to be stored in the cache region is to be stored in the local memory cache and that a second copy of the object to be stored in the cache region is to be stored in the shared memory cache.

Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a system and method for pluggable protocol handlers to route message traffic between communication partners. In an embodiment, a protocol independent connection manager receives a message from a communication partner over a network connection. The connection manager calls a dynamically loadable protocol handler to process and route the received message to a subsequent communication partner. In one embodiment, the network connection is a multiplexed network connection.

System and method for a pluggable protocol handler

Methods for a treatment of cached objects are described. In one embodiment, an object, associated with an object key, is stored in a first local memory cache associated with a first virtual machine within a first computing system. The object is also stored in a serialized format to a database. The object key is serialized after receiving a notification of successful storage of the object in the database. The serialized key is then sent over a network to a second computing system.
