A rotary valve consisting generally of a housing having a cylindrical chamber provided with radially disposed inlet and outlet passageways; a shaft journaled in the housing extending through and disposed coaxially relative to such chamber; and a rotor mounted on said shaft within such chamber having a first set of circumferentially spaced material receiving pockets communicable with the inlet and outlet passageways for receiving material through the inlet passageway, conveying it through the chamber and discharging it through the outlet passageway, and a second set of circumferentially spaced material receiving pockets communicable with the outlet passageway for discharging material through the outlet passageway; a cylindrical wall of the chamber having a passageway having an inlet communicating with a leading side of the inlet passageway and an outlet communicating with the second set of pockets for guiding material received through the inlet passageway and not received within the first set of pockets, to the second set of pockets.

Rotary valve for particulate materials

A rotary valve with a rotor shroud and a cylinder wall. The rotary valve is sealed by injecting a fluid to compress a packing seal into sealing engagement with the rotor shroud and the cylinder wall.

Rotary valve with improved sealing means

In a rotary valve including a housing having a rotor chamber and a drive shaft journaled in the housing and having an end portion thereof projecting into the rotor chamber, a rotor mountable on the drive shaft within the rotor chamber comprising a solitary body of plastic material having a cylindrical wall provided with a plurality of circumferentially spaced pockets machined-out therein, means for detachably mounting the body on the drive shaft and means for securing the body to the drive shaft when mounted thereon.

Valve rotor

A rotary valve generally consisting of a housing having a rotor chamber provided with inlet and outlet openings and an end access opening, a drive shaft journaled in the housing having an end section extending into the rotor chamber toward the end access opening, such shaft end section having a plane, torque transmitting surface, a rotor having an axial, cylindrical opening receiving the shaft end section, a plurality of circumferentially spaced pockets for receiving material from the inlet opening and discharging such material through the outlet opening and a plane, torque transmitting surface cooperable with the torque transmitting surface of the drive shaft end section, when the rotor is inserted through the end access opening into the rotor chamber, the rotor being freely slidable onto and off of the drive shaft end section, in the rotor chamber and through the end access opening, and a cover plate for the end access opening detachably secured to the housing.

Cantilevered rotary valve

A method of making a rotor for a rotary valve including cutting a round slug of a plastic material to a desired length, turning the round slug on a lathe to provide a desired outside diameter, milling the slug on a vertical milling machine to form a plurality of circumferentially spaced pockets, each of the pockets having rounded wall junctures and corners on a vertical milling machine, and milling an axial hole in the slug for receiving an end portion of a drive shaft.

Method of making thermoplastic valve rotors

In a rotary valve having a housing, a drive shaft journaled in the housing and having an end portion thereof projecting into a rotor chamber in the housing, a rotor mounted on a drive shaft and axially displaceable thereon and means for accessing the rotor to permit axial removal of the rotor from the rotor chamber, a rotor handling system comprising, a support means mounted on the housing, an assembly including a mandrel supported in the support means operable to axially register the mandrel with the drive shaft to permit the axial displacement of the rotor onto the mandrel, a carrier means mounted on the mandrel and axially displaceable thereon, a locking means mounted on the carrier member and selectively engageable with the rotor when the mandrel is disposed in axial alignment with the drive shaft for selectively locking the rotor to the carrier member and means operable for axially displacing the carrier means whereby upon the mandrel being axially registered with the drive shaft, the carrier member being disposed in locking relation with the rotor and axial displacing means being operated, the rotor will be caused to mvoe onto and off of the mandrel.

Rotor handling system for rotary valves

A diverter valve adapted for use in a pneumatic conveying system for transporting bulk materials comprising a housing having a chamber provided with a cylindrical wall, the cylindrical wall having an inlet port communicating with an inlet passageway in the housing and first and second outlet ports communicating with first and second passageways in the housings, respectively, a rotor disposed in the chamber and having a cylindrical wall disposed in opposed relation to the chamber cylindrical wall, the rotor cylindrical wall having first and second ports and an intercommunicating passageway, the rotor ports being spaced apart a sufficient distance whereby upon the rotor being rotated into a first position relative to the housing, the first rotor port will register with the housing inlet port and the second rotor port will register with the first housing outlet port to intercommunicate the housing inlet passageway with the first housing outlet passageway, and upon the rotor being rotated into a second position relative to the housing, the second rotor port will register with the housing inlet port and the first rotor port will register with the second housing outlet port to intercommunicate the housing inlet passageway with the second housing outlet passageway, the rotor cylindrical wall having a groove disposed about each port thereof and an inflatable seal disposed in each of the grooves.
