A method making fuel oil from refining residuals. Refining residuals are mixed with a diluent and an additive. Preferred diluents include diesel and reformed naphtha and combinations thereof. The additive is believed to be a cross-linked cyclic anhydride copolymer having an intrinsic viscosity (limiting viscosity, &#x3b7;) of between about 0.10 and 3.0 deciliters per gram and an average molecular weight between about 3,000 and 3,000,000. The additive includes excess aromatic hydrocarbons and a surfactant. In the preferred embodiment, the diluent and the residuals are mixed together in a ratio of about 3:1, by weight. The additive is introduced to this mixture in the amount of about 0.10 to 0.25 percent by weight. The components are thoroughly combined to yield a fuel oil having a viscosity that is about 25 to as much as about 70 percent lower than the viscosity of the same residual/diluent mixture lacking the additive.

Method for the production of fuel oil

The addition of one or more stimulants to a petroleum well in order to enhance the production of the well. If the well is suffering from asphaltene or paraffin build up, the well may be heated either chemically or with steam prior to introduction of the stimulant. Additionally, a solvent may be added to dissolve the asphaltenes and paraffins. The stimulants are allowed to soak into the formation and then the well is returned to production. The stimulants increase the ability of oil to flow through the formation and decrease the ability of water to flow through the formation by coating the water wet portions of the formation with oil soluble chemicals. The stimulants also decrease the viscosity of the oil in formation.

Method for stimulating a petroleum well

The invention involves the demulsification and liquefaction of hydrocarbon based sludges. A demulsifier and a liquefaction agent and methods of using the same are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, the demulsifier contains a salt of DDBSA, polypropylene glycol, and citrene. In a preferred embodiment, the liquefaction agent contains a glycol ether and sodium silicate. In another preferred embodiment, the liquefaction agent contains a glycol ether and citrene. In preferred practice, the sludge is treated with the liquefaction agent, circulated, treated with the demulsifier, and circulated further. An object of the invention is to provide a hydrocarbon based sludge that is sufficiently liquefied to be pumped and which is sufficiently demulsified to allow the waters, oils, and solids in the sludge to separate.

An aqueous-based composition comprising a glycerophosphoric acid ester and a diacetyltartaric acid ester of mono and/or diglycerides when combined with viscosifier, sealant and weighting agent is suitable for use as a spotting fluid for downhole drilling operations for releasing stuck drill string. The present invention also enhances drill fluid lubricity, is nontoxic to marine life, non-polluting and may be safely disposed of in off-shore waters.
