A new and distinct cultivar of walnut tree denominated 'Solano' is described. This new cultivar, 'Solano', comes into bearing young, with an excellent yield. 'Solano' forms jumbo-sized walnuts that possess light-colored kernels with little size variation in a given harvest. &#x2018;Solano&#x2019; bears fruit terminally and laterally and yields a crop that can be harvested approximately 2 weeks before &#x2018;Chandler&#x2019; (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,388). &#x2018;Solano&#x2019; is also protandrous, bearing male flowers before female flowers.

A new and distinct variety of walnut tree denominated 'Ivanhoe' is described. This new variety, 'Ivanhoe', comes into bearing young, with an excellent yield. 'Ivanhoe' forms large-sized walnuts that possess light-colored kernels with little size variation in a given harvest. &#x2018;Ivanhoe&#x2019; bears fruit terminally and laterally and yields a crop that can be harvested approximately 4 weeks before &#x2018;Chandler&#x2019; (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,388). &#x2018;Ivanhoe&#x2019; is also protogynous, bearing female flowers before male flowers.

A new and distinct variety of walnut rootstock denominated 'VX211' is described. This new variety, 'VX211', can be propagated through standard tissue culture micropropagation or rooted cuttings. 'VX211' has vigor and survivability in the nursery and in the orchard. It has reduced susceptibility to damage from nematodes () compared to other &#x2018;Paradox&#x2019; rootstock. &#x2018;VX211&#x2019; also has reduced susceptibility to damage fromin greenhouse screens and in the field compared to other &#x2018;Paradox&#x2019; rootstock.

It bears a jumbo sized nut with a strong, well filled shell which is easily removed and contains light to extra light colored kernels with little size variation in a given harvest. The new tree also shows low susceptibility to walnut blight.

A new and distinct Persian Walnut Tree (i.e., ) is provided. Jumbo walnuts are produced having thick well-filled hulls. There is little walnut size variation in a given harvest. The kernels are easy to remove and display a distinctive atypical red-purple pellicle. The resulting walnut crop commonly can be harvested from a young tree prior to that of the 'Chandler' cultivar U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,388) at Davis, Calif. The walnut kernels in view of their distinctive naturally-occurring festive red-purple pellicle are particularly suited for consumption at parties, holidays, or other special occasions.
