An apparatus and method for device security, wherein a fingerprint image is acquired on a touchscreen, and an authentication process is performed based on the first fingerprint image. Thereafter, a second fingerprint image is acquired and a difference between a characteristic of the first and second fingerprint images is determined, and based upon whether this difference is greater than a threshold, a second authentication process is performed.

Apparatus and method for device security

A method of controlling an apparatus that includes an ultrasonic sensor system may involve controlling the ultrasonic sensor system to transmit a first ultrasonic compressional wave and receiving first signals from the ultrasonic sensor system. The first signals may include signals corresponding to reflections of the first ultrasonic compressional wave from a target object proximate a surface of the apparatus. The method may involve performing an authentication process based, at least in part, on the first signals. The method may involve controlling the apparatus to transmit a shear wave and receiving second signals from the ultrasonic sensor system. The second signals may include signals corresponding to reflections of the shear wave from the target object. The method may involve performing a spoof detection process based, at least in part, on the second signals.

Anti-spoofing devices and methods involving acoustic shear waves

Embodiments of apparatuses and methods for detecting a spoof finger are disclosed. In one embodiment, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor comprises an ultrasonic transmitter configured to transmit an ultrasonic wave to a finger, an ultrasonic sensor array configured to receive a reflected ultrasonic wave from the finger, and a controller configured to determine a reflected acoustic energy of the finger based on a difference between average amplitudes of the reflected ultrasonic wave from ridges and valleys of the finger; and determine whether the finger is a spoof based at least in part on the reflected acoustic energy of the finger.

Liveness and spoof detection for ultrasonic fingerprint sensors

A synchronization system for an acoustic signal-based positioning system is provided that generates a magnetic field as a synchronization signal. The magnetic synchronization signal is transmitted by a transmitter of the positioning system and received by the receiver of the positioning system. The receiver may include a magnetic synchronization signal receiver that may receive the magnetic synchronization signal on a same acoustic channel as an acoustic positioning signal. Moreover, the magnetic synchronization signal receiver may be a component already present in the receiver and capable of receiving a magnetic synchronization signal.

Embodiments of correcting diffraction effects in an ultrasonic sensor are disclosed. In one embodiment, an ultrasonic sensor may include an ultrasonic transmitter configured to transmit an ultrasonic wave, a piezoelectric receiver layer configured to receive a reflected wave of the ultrasonic wave, where the reflected wave comprises a plurality of images of a fingerprint having a plurality of phases in a time sequence, and a platen layer configured to protect the ultrasonic transmitter and the piezoelectric receiver layer. The ultrasonic sensor may further include an ultrasonic sensor array and a processor configured to sum the plurality of images multiplied by a complex phase exponential to form an integrated complex image, align the integrated complex image to a pre-selected phase to form an aligned complex image, determine a maximum energy phase using the aligned complex image, and compute a maximum energy image to represent the fingerprint based at least in part on the aligned complex image at the maximum energy phase.
