A device for decontaminating a medical device, the device including a compartment adapted to contain a medical device and a solution, the solution comprising a photoactivatable substance; and a light system providing 360 degrees of exposure to the compartment. Also, a method for decontaminating a medical device, the method including placing a medical device in a compartment with a solution, the solution comprising a photoactivatable substance; incubating the medical device in the solution to allow the photoactivatable substance to attach to pathogens; and exposing the compartment to 360 degrees of light exposure to activate the photoactivatable substance.

Device and method for sterilization of instruments and surfaces

A sterile method for preparing stable thrombin component from a single donor's plasma in which the thrombin component is harvested simultaneously from the clotting and adhesive proteins component from the same donor plasma in less than one hour. The combined components provide an improved biological hemostatic agent and tissue sealant by virtue of its freedom from the risk of contaminating viruses or bacteria from allogenic human or bovine blood sources. The thrombin provides polymerization of the clotting and adhesive proteins in less than five seconds, and is sufficiently stable to provide that fast clotting over a six hour period. Further, the clotting times can be predictably lengthened by diluting the thrombin with saline.

Apparatus and method of preparation of stable, long term thrombin from plasma and thrombin formed thereby

Method for preparing thrombin for use in a biological glue

An automated system for rapid sequential photometric analysis of a collection of double fluorochrome stained lymphocyte specimens, useful for antibody screening or lymphocytotoxicity analysis. The specimens are sequentially alternately irradiated with light of two distinguishable wavelengths, producing fluorescence at two distinguishable wavelengths. The fluorescent emission light intensity for each irradiation of each specimen is measured using a photometer and computer. The computer controls the synchronization of the irradiation through alternately selected condenser sets with the sequential movement of specimens into the optical path of the irradiating and detected light, and calculates the quotient of the light intensities emitted from each specimen at the two selected fluorescent light wavelengths. These quotients are compared against a control ratio (for lymphocytotoxicity analysis) to classify the specimen. Also described is a method of preparing specimens for such analysis, which requires that a complement be added to the first staining solution after the latter is applied to the specimens, then this combination agitated, and then the second staining solution added and the specimen incubated.
