Apparatus for holding materials including a container having a container wall, a non-circular container opening extending through the container wall, a non-circular container flange connected to the exterior of the container wall and surrounding the container opening. A non-metallic, non-circular access hatch connectable to the container flange by bolting and having a plurality of apertures extending therethrough is provided. The non-metallic, non-circular access hatch preferably includes a primary opening having a removable cover and a variety of associated components being accommodated by respective apertures such as a recirculation line, a pressure relief valve, a vacuum relief valve, and a fluid level indicator. Preferably the hatch apparatus and the primary opening cover are made of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene material.

A method of forming a tank system and a tank system formed thereby wherein the tank system comprises a plastic tank covered by a metal shell. The inventive method comprises the steps of: (a) covering a first portion of the plastic tank with a first metal shell piece having a first edge wherein the interior shape of the first metal shell piece corresponds to the exterior shape of the first portion of the plastic tank such that the exterior surface of the plastic tank is positioned in close proximity to the interior surface of the first metal shell piece; (b) covering a second portion of the plastic tank with a second metal shell wherein the interior shape of the second metal shell piece corresponds to the exterior shape of the second portion of the plastic tank such that the exterior surface of the plastic tank is positioned in close proximity to the interior surface of the second metal shell piece, and wherein the second metal shell piece has a second edge corresponding to the first edge of the first metal shell piece such that, when the first and second shell pieces are placed over the plastic tank, the second edge is positioned adjacent the first edge; and (c) welding the first and second shell pieces together along the first and second edges.

Method of producing metal encapsulated plastic tank systems

The present invention provides a hatch apparatus comprising: (a) a non-metallic base having a base flange which is connectable to a container flange by bolting and (b) a non-metallic lid which is threadedly connectable to the non-metallic base. The inventive hatch apparatus can also include a pressure relief device associatable with the non-metallic lid. In one embodiment, the non-metallic lid comprises a single lid member. In a second embodiment, the non-metallic lid comprises two lid members. The inventive hatch apparatus is highly corrosion resistant and convenient to use.

A tank handling and protection apparatus is particularly suitable for handling tanks carrying liquid additives for oil field servicing operations on offshore vessels. The apparatus includes a frame base and first and second mounting racks attached to the frame base each of those mounting racks having a full-size tank base location defined thereon. Releasable connecting devices are provided for releasably connecting at least one tank to each mounting rack. A protective cage is I0 attached to the frame base and surrounds the tank locations. The protective cage includes removable side walls which allow the tanks to be placed on the frame base with a forklift or the like. The protective cage also has top openings which allow the tanks to be placed on the mounting racks with a sling and crane lifting them through the top openings. The apparatus itself may also be handled with either the forklift or crane and sling. The tank handling and protection apparatus provides a fully certifiable transportable container for the tanks which allows easy access to and use of the tanks while they remain in the protective enclosure.

A damage-resistant containment device includes a high strength fiber covering the surface of the container and an elastomeric matrix supporting the fiber and bonding the fiber to the surface of the container. The device and method provide a damage-resistant polyolefin container which may be used to transport hazardous fluids by vehicles, such as trucks, on publicly used thoroughfares.

A self-leveling mixer apparatus includes a base and a generally downwardly tapered movable mixing tub supported from the base in a manner such that the tub is movable between first and second positions relative to the base. A leveling valve is provided for controlling a level of fluid in the movable mixing tub. A connector linkage operably associated with the tub and the leveling valve is connected therebetween for adjusting the leveling valve in response to movement of the mixing tub relative to the base. The tub preferably has a generally oval shaped upper end and a generally circular shaped lower end and is constantly tapered therebetween. A tub orientation control linkage is provided to prevent tilting of the tub as it moves between its upper and lower positions.

Self-leveling mixer apparatus

A tank mounting apparatus includes a mounting rack having a full-size tank base location defined thereon, and including a plurality of mounting brackets for mounting either one full-size tank base, two half-size tank bases, four quarter-size tank bases, or one half-size and two quarter-size tank bases within the full-size tank base location. Releasable connecting pins are provided for connecting the tank bases to the mounting brackets.

A blender vehicle apparatus includes a vehicle having a vehicle frame. An internal combustion engine driven hydraulic power package is mounted on the vehicle frame. A plurality of liquid additive storage tanks are mounted on the frame adjacent the power package. An operator's work platform, including a control station, is mounted on the vehicle frame adjacent the storage tanks on a side thereof opposite the power package. A hydraulically powered blender assembly is also included, and a hydraulically powered lifting apparatus is mounted on the vehicle frame for moving the blender assembly between a lowered position and a raised position. The raised position of the blender assembly is located above the vehicle frame and adjacent the work platform on a side thereof opposite the storage tanks.

A self-leveling mixing apparatus includes a transportable skid frame. A mixing tub is supported from the frame in a manner such that the tube is movable between first and second positions relative to the frame. The tube has a tub fluid outlet defined in a lower portion thereof. A suction conduit is supported from the skid frame for transport therewith and includes a manifold inlet, a manifold outlet, and a tub outlet conduit portion located upstream of the manifold outlet and connected to the tub fluid outlet. A leveling valve is also included and is disposed in the suction conduit upstream of the manifold outlet for controlling a level of fluid in the tub. A connector linkage operably connects the tube and the leveling valve for adjusting the leveling valve in response to movement of the tub relative to the skid frame.

A self-leveling mixer apparatus includes a base and a generally downwardly tapered movable mixing tub supported from the base in a manner such that the tub is movable between first and second positions relative to the base. A leveling valve is provided for controlling a level of fluid in the movable mixing tub. A connector linkage is operably associated with the mixing tub and the leveling valve for adjusting the leveling valve in response to movement of the mixing tube relative to the base. A rotating mechanical agitator is disposed within the tub for inducing a generally vortex type of fluid flow pattern within the generally downward tapered tub.

A transportable material conveying apparatus includes a frame having a surge bin mounted on the frame for receiving, holding and discharging particulate material. A gathering conveyor is mounted on the frame for gathering the particulate material and delivering the particulate material into the surge bin. A discharge conveyor is mounted on the frame below an outlet of the surge bin for receiving the particulate material from the outlet and for conveying the particulate material to a discharge point.
