An apparatus includes a pressure regulator, an in-cylinder fuel injector and a controller programmed to, when fueling with a first gaseous fuel, command the regulator to regulate the pressure of the first gaseous fuel to a first injection pressure; and command the injector to inject within 90 CA° of TDC during a compression stroke an injected quantity of a first gaseous fuel into the combustion chamber at the first injection pressure, and when fueling with a second gaseous fuel, to command the regulator to regulate the pressure of the second gaseous fuel to a second injection pressure; and command the injector to inject within 90 CA° of TDC during the compression stroke an injected quantity of a second injected gaseous fuel.

Apparatus and method for regulating and injecting gaseous fuel into an internal combustion engine

An improved filter apparatus for a cryogenic fluid includes a filter and a support. The filter includes a mesh having an internal space and an open end. The support is associated with the mesh for maintaining a volume of the internal space above a predetermined value. In operation cryogenic fluid enters the internal space through the mesh and exits the open end thereof.

Apparatus and method for filtering cryogenic fluid

A multi-vessel fluid storage and delivery system is disclosed which is particularly useful in systems having internal combustion engines which use gaseous fuels. The system can deliver gaseous fluids at higher flow rates than that which can be reliably achieved by vapor pressure building circuits alone, and that keeps pressure inside the storage vessel lower so that it reduces fueling time and allows for quick starts thereafter. The system is designed to store gaseous fluid in liquefied form in a plurality of storage vessels including a primary storage vessel fluidly connected to a pump apparatus and one or more server vessels which together with a control system efficiently stores a liquefied gaseous fluid and quickly delivers the fluid as a gas to an end user even when high flow rates are required. The system controls operation of the pump apparatus as a function of the measured fluid pressure, and controls the fluid pressure in a supply line according to predetermined pressure values based upon predetermined system operating conditions.

Multi-vessel fluid storage and delivery system

An intelligent pressure management system that controls the pressure inside a cryogenic tank between variable target vapor pressure values and/or ranges that are set as a function of system operating conditions, by actuating one or more actively controllable valves, based on a signal received from a pressure sensor that measures the pressure inside the pressurized tank. The variable target vapor pressure values and/or ranges are determined as a function of system operating conditions including the vapor volume in the storage space and a fluid flow demanded by the use device. The target vapor pressure can also be adjusted based on a geographical location, predictive system operation mode, a learned operator use pattern and/or a learned system use pattern.

Intelligent pressure management system for cryogenic fluid systems

An intelligent pressure management system that controls the pressure inside a cryogenic tank between variable target vapor pressure values and/or ranges that are set as a function of system operating conditions, by actuating an actively controllable valve disposed on a gaseous fluid vapor conduit; and in some embodiments, additionally by actuating an actively controllable valve on a liquefied gaseous fluid conduit, based on a signal received from a pressure sensor that measures the pressure inside the pressurized tank. The variable target vapor pressure values and/or ranges are determined as a function of at least two system operating conditions which can include the vapor volume in the storage space; the fluid flow demanded by the use device; and a measured temperature parameter that correlates to the temperature of the fluid exiting a heater.

A method and system is disclosed for delivering a cryogenically stored fuel in a gaseous state into the air intake system of a gaseous fuelled internal combustion engine. The method comprises determining the flow rate capacity in the engine system's fuel delivery line, comparing the determined flow rate capacity to a required flow rate demand and supplying fuel in gaseous state directly from the vapor space of the cryogenic storage vessel to the fuel delivery line that supplies fuel to the engine, when the flow rate capacity is equal to or higher than the required flow rate demand. The method further comprises activating a cryogenic pump to deliver fuel to the internal combustion engine from the liquid space of the cryogenic storage vessel when the determined flow rate capacity is lower than the required flow rate demand.

Method and system for delivering a gaseous fuel into the air intake system of an internal combustion engine

A method and system delivers a cryogenically stored fuel in a gaseous state into the air intake system of a gaseous fuelled internal combustion engine. The method involves measuring the pressure in the vapor space of the cryogenic storage vessel, comparing the measured pressure to a required fuel supply pressure and supplying fuel in gaseous state directly from the vapor space of the cryogenic storage vessel to the fuel delivery line that supplies fuel to the engine, when the pressure measured in the vapor space of the cryogenic storage vessel is equal to or higher than the required fuel supply pressure. The method further involves activating a cryogenic pump to deliver fuel to the internal combustion engine from the liquid space of the cryogenic storage vessel when the measured pressure in the vapor space is lower than the required fuel supply pressure.

An improved apparatus and method provide a portable fuel supply for a vehicle. The apparatus comprises a vessel that is a source of fuel and a conduit that is operatively connected with the vessel at one end. There is also a coupling pin arrangement connected with the vessel. The coupling pin arrangement comprises a coupling pin and is mutually engageable with a fifth wheel coupling device. An end opposite the one end of the conduit operatively connects with a fuel system of the vehicle such that the vessel is in fluid communication with the fuel system and the vehicle operates with the fuel from the vessel.

Apparatus and method for a portable fuel supply for a vehicle

An apparatus and method are provided for pumping a cryogenic fluid from a storage vessel. The cryogenic fluid is pumped from the storage vessel to a heat exchanger and then to a delivery conduit. A pressure sensor measures fluid pressure in the delivery conduit. An electronic controller is programmed to monitor a signal from the pressure sensor, process the signal to determine from the measured process fluid pressure when cryogenic pump performance is degraded, and to send a signal to an operator of the apparatus indicating when the electronic controller determines that cryogenic pump performance has degraded below a predetermined threshold volumetric efficiency.
