The device tracking location adherence and route adherence technology, according to an exemplary embodiment of this invention, at least provides for secure message reception from a remote device. The present invention allows for secure data transmission between a remote device and while employing a small amount of bandwidth thereby providing a cost-effective data transmission system. This is especially advantageous where a fleet of remote devices is employed within a network.

Method and system for secured wireless data transmission to and from a remote device

An approach is provided for configuring telemetry devices over a wireless network is disclosed. A client (e.g., web browser application) communicates with a fleet and asset management system to obtain information about a plurality of objects (vehicle or asset). In response to the user input, the client transmits the user input to the fleet and asset management, wherein the fleet and asset management generates a configuration message based on the user input for transmission over the wireless network to the one telemetry device for configuring an input/output (I/O) port of the telemetry device. The I/O port is coupled to a corresponding one of the objects. The telemetry device sets parameters relating to the I/O port according to the configuration message.

Method and system for remotely configuring mobile telemetry devices

An approach is provided for securely communicating in a wireless network. A cryptographic server generates a command to enable a secure mode of operation for a wireless device, wherein the wireless device can operate in a secure mode and an unsecure mode in support of two-way messaging. The cryptographic server sends the command to the wireless device to activate the secure mode of operation. The secure mode of operation provides transmission of an encrypted message by the wireless device over the wireless network.

Method and apparatus for providing secure wireless communication

An approach is provided for tracking a telemetry device over a wireless network. A determination is made whether the telemetry device is operating in a first mode requiring assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) data from the wireless network to determine location of the telemetry device. The A-GPS data is transmitted to the telemetry device if the telemetry device is operating in the first mode, wherein the telemetry device operates in a second mode to obtain GPS data autonomously for determining the location when the telemetry device is outside of the coverage area of the wireless network.
