Methods and devices for encoding a point cloud. More than one frame of reference is identified and a transform defines the relative motion of a second frame of reference to a first frame of reference. The space is segmented into regions and each region is associated with one of the frames of reference. Local motion vectors within a region are expressed relative to the frame of reference associated with that region. Occupancy of the bitstream is entropy encoded based on predictions determined using the location motion vectors and the transform associated with the attached frame of reference.

Predictive coding of point clouds using multiple frames of references

Methods and devices for coding point cloud data using volume trees and predicted-point trees. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method of encoding a point cloud data to generate a bitstream of compressed point cloud data representing a three-dimensional location of a physical object is provided, the point cloud data being located within a volumetric space. Provided is a method and apparatus for location notification using location context information. In accordance with an embodiment of the disclosure, a mobile device automatically generates location context information that indicates a point of interest in a vicinity of the mobile device. For example, if the user of the mobile device is at home, then the location context information indicates that the user is at home instead of merely indicating latitude/longitude information corresponding to the location of the home. The mobile device displays the location context information in order to convey the location of the mobile device in a manner that is meaningful without the need for a map. Alternatively, or additionally, the mobile device provides the location context information to at least one other device. This serves to inform other users of the location of the mobile device in a manner that is meaningful without the need for a map.

Methods and devices for video coding using intra-coding and removing redundant intra modes from a set of candidate intra modes. The methods may determine that at least some candidate intra modes generate candidate prediction blocks that are redundant and, based on that determination, eliminate said at least some of the candidate intra modes to reduce the set to a subset. In some cases, a candidate prediction block is redundant if it is less than a threshold different from another of the candidate prediction blocks identified by one of the candidate intra modes in the set. A function may be applied to the candidate prediction block and the another candidate prediction block to identify redundancy.

To better align the data with assumptions upon which the entropy coding scheme is based, the block of residual data is permuted at the encoder prior to entropy coding. Methods and devices for coding position in V2X communications

A system and method for resilient signal encoding provide for encoding a data signal to reduce bandwidth required to transmit the encoded signal while mitigating the impact of frames lost or corrupted during transmission. A first frame of the data signal is encoded as an independently decodable frame and is assigned as a reference frame. Subsequent frames of the data signal are encoded as different frames relative to the reference frame. The independently decodable frame and the difference frames are transmitted to a receiver. The receiver decodes the frames and sends an acknowledgement for one or more successfully decoded difference frames. When an acknowledgment is received, a corresponding data signal frame is assigned as the reference frame. Subsequent difference frames are encoded relative to the newly assigned reference frame.
