The universal joint () is provided at the free end () of the arm assembly () in a wheel chock handling unit () for securing a wheel chock (). The joint () includes a main plate (), a first pivot coupling () defining a yaw axis (), and an elongated link () attached to the first pivot coupling () and being pivotable about the yaw axis (). The joint () also includes means for limiting axial pivot movements of the link () within a range of angular positions having a first angular end position and a second angular end position. The joint () can be configured and arranged so that the wheel chock () can self-align using only its own weight, thus the force of gravity, along the entire range of positions along a base plate (), or a portion thereof.

The wheel chock handling unit includes a base, an articulated cantilever arm assembly, a main spring assembly and a force-compensation mechanism. The arm assembly has a first end pivotally mounted to the base for angular displacement of the arm assembly in a substantially vertical plane between a storage position and an extended position. It also has a second end receiving a wheel chock. The main spring assembly extends between the arm assembly and the base. The force-compensation mechanism includes a lever pivotally mounted to the base for angular displacement in a plane that is substantially parallel to that of the arm assembly.

The wheel chock is part of a wheel chock restraint system that also includes a base plate to prevent a parked vehicle from moving away in an unauthorized or accidental manner in a departure direction. The wheel chock includes a main body having a bottom base portion and a tire-engaging bulge. It also includes a tire deformation cavity, made within the main body on the tire-facing side. Teeth are provided underneath the bottom base portion of the wheel chock to engage at least one of the corresponding teeth provided on the base plate in a latched engagement. The wheel chock has an improved resistance to rollover and tipping when the wheel is pressed forcefully against the wheel chock.

The wheel chock includes a locking mechanism that can be held in a locked state when properly positioned on a base plate. The locking mechanism includes a positioning unit having at least one tooth provided to engage a side of a corresponding one of the blocking elements in a latched engagement when the positioning unit is in the fully locked position. The locking mechanism also includes an actuating device to move the positioning unit from the unlocked position towards the fully locked position, and a holding device to selectively hold the positioning unit in the fully locked position.

The wheel chock includes a locking mechanism that can be held in a locked state when properly positioned on a base plate. The locking mechanism includes a positioning unit having at least one tooth provided to engage a side of a corresponding one of the blocking elements in a latched engagement when the positioning unit is in the fully locked position. The bidirectional wheel chock restraint system is used for preventing a parked vehicle from moving both in a forward direction and a rearward direction. The restraint system includes an elongated ground-anchored base plate having a plurality of stoppers that are transversally-disposed over the base plate and that are spaced apart from one another along a longitudinal axis. Depending on the implementation, the restraint system also include either a single double-sided wheel chock or two single-sided wheel chocks.

A wheel chock restraint system which comprises a wheel chock having a base, a plurality of teeth extending outwardly from the base, the teeth extending in a first direction, and a locking member mounted within the chock, the locking member having a plurality of locking member teeth extending from a bottom thereof, the locking member teeth extending in a second direction generally opposed to the first direction, and an arrangement for moving the locking member in a generally vertical direction.
