An insulating, double-knit fabric containing a first knit layer and a second knit layer coupled with the first knit layer through a plurality of first direction spaced apart rows in a first direction and a plurality of second direction spaced apart rows in a second direction which is perpendicular to the first direction forming a plurality of air pockets in a grid pattern. The fabric also contains a plurality of intermediate fiber regions positioned in the plurality of air pockets, where each of the intermediate fiber regions contains a plurality of rows of multi-filament fibers extending parallel to at least one of the first and second knit layers. The first knit layer and the second knit layer comprise a plurality of flame resistant fibers, a plurality of cellulosic fibers, and a plurality of modacrylic fibers blended together.

Insulating double-knit fabric

A composite textile fabric that includes a first (face) fabric layer, and a second (back) fabric layer that is formed concurrently with the first fabric layer in a plaited construction. The second fabric includes a plurality of anchored regions at which the second fabric layer is anchored to, and in intimate contact with, the first fabric layer. The second fabric layer also includes a plurality of floating regions, overlying and unattached to the first fabric layer, interspersed between the anchored regions.

Composite textile fabrics

A synthetic radiator fabric with permanent mechanical wicking defines an inner surface and has a raised knit body defining an opposite outer surface. The fabric includes hydrophilic and hydrophobic fiber-containing yarns. At the inner surface, the hydrophilic fiber-containing yarns collect liquid sweat from a wearer's skin surface and maintain the collected sweat at the inner surface, generally in the vicinity of and/or in contact with the wearer's skin, for encouraging evaporation of sweat and providing evaporative cooling. The raised knit body extends from the inner surface toward, and defines, the opposite outer surface. The hydrophobic fiber-containing yarns are arranged in a radiator-like construction forming egg-crate or honey-comb like cells or pores, defined by the knit body and open to the inner surface. At the outer fabric surface, the hydrophobic fibers receive excess sweat from the wearer's body, thereby to encourage rapid evaporation and drying, for improved breathability.

Synthetic radiator fabric

An improved insulating performance fabric has a double-knit body, formed with traditional, relatively smooth, outer surfaces, and an inner surface with the form of multiple fabric 'bubbles' separated, e.g., by a grid pattern of intersecting grooves. An insulating, double-knit performance fabric of this disclosure may also be found in the form of a garment comprising the insulating, double knit performance fabric, or in the form of fabric article comprising the insulating, double knit performance fabric, etc.

A fabric structure includes a first layer, a second layer, and a spacing layer that interconnects the first layer and the second layer, wherein, the interconnecting of the first layer, second layer, and third layer forms a plurality of channels.

Three-dimensional channeled fabric structure for garments and/or footwear

The invention related to an insulating, double-knit fabric having a width and a length and comprising a first knit layer and a second knit layer coupled with the first knit layer forming a plurality of rows of lofted fibers separated by rows of air spaces. The air spaces extend along the length of the insulating, double-knit fabric for the entire length of the fabric and the lofted fibers extend in a direction having an orthogonal component with respect to the at least one of the first knit layer and the second knit layer.

An insulated composite fabric has an inner fabric layer, an outer fabric layer, and an insulating-filler layer enclosed there between. The insulating-filler layer is a textile fabric with at least one raised surface. One side of the insulating-filler layer comprises a first surface with relatively high pile, including regions of no pile or relatively low pile interspersed among regions of relatively high pile. The other side of the insulating-filler layer comprises a second surface with relatively high pile, including regions of no pile or relatively low pile interspersed among regions of relatively high pile. Interconnecting piles are formed with regions of the relatively high pile of the first pile surface and regions of the relatively high pile of the second pile surface.

Insulated composite fabric

A composite velour fabric garment includes a laminate consisting of an outer woven shell layer, an inner thermal layer of knit construction, and an intermediate layer disposed between and laminated to each of the shell layer and the thermal layer. The outer woven shell layer contains spandex in at least a weft direction for stretch and recovery in a width direction. The knit construction of the inner thermal layer provides stretch in at least a width direction, in harmony with the shell layer, and the inner thermal layer has a raised surface facing inwardly, away from the shell layer. The intermediate layer has controlled air permeability, including zero air permeability.

Multi-layer flame retardant fabric

A composite velour fabric garment includes a laminate consisting of an outer woven shell layer, an inner thermal layer of knit construction, and an intermediate layer disposed between and laminated to each of the shell layer and the thermal layer. The outer woven shell layer contains spandex in at least a weft direction for stretch and recovery in a width direction. The knit construction of the inner thermal layer provides stretch in at least a width direction, in harmony with the shell layer, and the inner thermal layer has a raised surface facing inwardly, away from the shell layer. The raised surface includes a plurality of discrete pillar regions of sinker loop yarn arranged in a grid or box pattern and configured to form a plurality of intersecting channels between a wearer's body and the inner thermal layer. The intermediate layer has controlled air permeability, including zero air permeability. One or more of the outer, inner, and intermediate layers include flame retardant material.

A composite fabric article includes multi-filament, interlaced yams forming a knit construction. The fabric article has an inner surface and an outer surface where the inner surface has at least one region of raised fibers or fleece formed thereupon, and the outer surface has an area upon which a non-continuous coating of discrete coating segments of coating material is applied to bind individual yarn fibers together in bound groupings and to enhance abrasion resistance of the outer surface.

Composite fabric with engineered pattern

A method of forming a composite fabric article includes interlacing yarns including multi-filament fibers to form a fabric body of knit construction, and forming a raised or fleece region upon an inner surface of the fabric body. The method also includes applying a non-continuous coating consisting of discrete coating segments of coating material upon yarn fibers at an outer surface of the fabric body to bind individual yarn fibers together in bound groupings and to enhance abrasion resistance of the outer surface. The non-continuous coating is applied such that the coating is without substantial effect on hand tactile and breathability of the knit construction of the fabric body.

A composite fabric garment includes a first garment portion disposed in one or more upper regions of the fabric garment, i.e. those regions relatively more likely in use to be exposed to wind and rain, and a second garment portion disposed in one or more lower regions of the fabric garment, i.e. those regions relatively less likely in use to be exposed to wind and rain. The first garment portion is formed of a first composite fabric having first inner and outer fabric layers and a first intermediate barrier layer disposed between and bonded to at least one of the first inner and outer fabric layers, the first intermediate barrier layer being breathable and substantially impermeable to wind and liquid water. The second garment portion is formed of a second composite fabric formed of second inner and outer fabric layers and having predetermined air permeability. In one embodiment, the second garment portion further includes a second intermediate, breathable, air-permeable barrier layer disposed between and bonded to at least one of the second inner and outer fabric layers. In another embodiment, the second garment portion is formed of a composite fabric having controlled air permeability in a non-laminate absent a barrier.

Multi-layer composite fabric garment

A composite textile fabric for rapidly moving moisture away from the skin, and for retaining body heat, is provided. The composite fabric includes an inner fabric layer made of a yarn comprising a plurality of fibers primarily of polyester or other synthetic yarns which have been rendered hydrophilic, and an outer fabric layer made of a yarn comprising a plurality of fibers primarily of polyester or other synthetic yarns which have also been rendered hydrophilic. The inner fabric layer and the outer fabric layer are formed concurrently by knitting a plaited construction so that the layers are distinct and separate, yet integrated one with the other. The yarn fibers of the inner fabric layer are embedded with particles of a refractory carbide, or may be treated by metal vapor deposition to enhance the retention of body heat.
