A plurality of virtual instant tickets are loaded onto a memory of a microprocessor that is physically provided to the consumer. The consumer is physically given a small object, such as a bank card or hotel room key card that has the microprocessor embedded therein. The memory of the microprocessor includes a validation number of each virtual instant ticket, and the winning or losing outcome of each virtual instant ticket and the value of any winning outcome. A purchase is made to unlock a portion of the virtual instant tickets, thereby allowing that portion of tickets to be played. The consumer uses a computing device that interacts with the microprocessor to play the tickets and informs the consumer of the outcome. Additional virtual instant tickets may be unlocked with subsequent purchases. The memory of the microprocessor is updated to indicate the one or more virtual instant tickets that were successfully played.

Coupons are electronically delivered by a coupon generating subsystem to a plurality of mobile devices via gaming sessions experienced on the mobile devices. A memory of the coupon generating subsystem stores a set of rules associated with delivery of the coupons from the coupon generating subsystem to the mobile devices, wherein the set of rules include a payout table that determines the value of coupons that are delivered. A gaming session is initiated on one of the mobile devices when the mobile device is within a broadcast range of the coupon generating subsystem. The gaming session uses a random number generator and a central processing unit of the coupon generating subsystem to generate a result for the game of chance using the payout table in the memory. The result determines the value of a coupon to be electronically delivered via the coupon generating subsystem to the mobile device.

A secure distributed gambling system and method is described. The system includes a plurality of mobile computing devices and a plurality of secure gambling microprocessors. Each of the plurality of secure gambling microprocessors is coupled with a different one of the plurality of mobile computing devices to provide a plurality of secure stand-alone gambling platforms. A gambling management system is communicatively coupled with one or more of the plurality of secure stand-alone gambling platforms to maintain gambling integrity.

A distributed generation of coupons system and method is described. One example develops a campaign having a set of rules at a campaign management system. in addition, a communication channel is established between the campaign management system and a coupon generating subsystem. The campaign having a set of rules is provided from the campaign management system to the coupon generating subsystem via the communication channel. The coupon generating subsystem is authorized to independently generate a coupon based on the set of rules of the campaign without requiring communication between the coupon generating subsystem and the campaign management system.

To secure communications in an untrusted environment for a commercial transaction on an account between the account's holder and a merchant, an identifier and a signature can be derived from a token. The identifier is associated by use of a directory with an application context that identifies the account's issuer. The merchant will provide the signature to the account's issuer, or agent thereof, to be verified. In practice, a merchant to the identified issuer of an account an authorization request message for a transaction that includes a signature and an identifier for the account upon which the transaction is to be conducted. The account's issuer responds with an authorization response message that includes an indicator that the signature has been verified. After notice of the signature's verification, the transaction on the account is deemed authorized and the merchant can proceed.
