A method for forming relatively large and inexpensive crystals of KTiOPO.sub.4, which exhibit relatively low conductivities, is disclosed. In addition, electro-optic devices based on such crystals are also disclosed.

Low conductivity, doped KTIOPO.sub.4  and devices based thereon

A method of producing large flow-free single crystals of either LiNdP.sub.4 O.sub.12 or XB.sub.2 O.sub.4, where X is Ba, Sr or Ca, comprising the steps of, preparing a mixture of the final product and a flux of oxide of their precursors, melting the mixture, fluxing at a temperature substantially equal to the saturation value then suspending a seed in the melt, and cooling while maintaining essentially spatially isothermal conditions throughout said melt to crystallize single crystals on the seed.

Process for crystal growth from solution

Large flaw-free crystals of L-arginine phosphate monohydrate (LAP) are produced from a saturated aqueous solution of LAP by rotating seed crystals of LAP in the solution while maintaining the pH of the solution at 2-8, preferably at 2-3 while lowering the temperature of the solution at a rate of 0.01.degree. C.-1.degree. C. until crystallization is completed.

Large flow-free crystals of KiTiOPO.sub.4 and the Rb, Tl, and As analogs are produced by preparing a melt of KtiOPO.sub.4 or its analog in a flux in which the ratio by weight of KTiOPO.sub.4 to the flux at the seeding temperature is equal to the saturation value of the KTiOPO.sub.4 in the flux, suspending a crytal of KTiOPO.sub.4 in the melt and then slowly decreasing the temperature of the melt while essentially spatially isothermal conditions are provided throughout the melt.

Process for crystal growth of KTiOPO.sub.4 from solution

Li.sub.4 Ge.sub.5 O.sub.12 activated by a closed shell ion such as Ti.sup.+4 or Sn.sup.+4 as the active medium for a solid state laser that emits in the blue-green region of the visible spectrum.
