Computerized aspects monitor listening virtual local area network ports for multicast packets from hypervisor virtual machines that meet a multicast group definition, and retrieve source addresses for original hypervisor sources of detected ones of the multicast packets, bind the retrieved addresses to the multicast packets to generate encapsulated packets, and forward the encapsulated packets as user datagram protocol unicast packets to a destination address of a virtual extensible helper daemon defined for a destination hypervisor of a second virtual local area network. The destination address meets the multicast group definition for the first virtual local area network, and the second virtual local area network is geographically remote from and different from the first virtual local area network, and thus the aspects send the first user datagram protocol unicast packet through an internet protocol router to the designated receiving port.

Multicast helper to link virtual extensible LANs

A method, executed by a computer, for deploying an enterprise application includes configuring a plurality of application nodes for a software defined network using static IP addresses, capturing a plurality of images corresponding to the plurality of application nodes, preparing an application pattern that incorporates the plurality of images, and saving the application pattern for subsequent deployment. In one embodiment, the application is deployed onto a computing environment using the application pattern. The software defined network may be accessible by one or more service IP address. In one embodiment, one or more of the application nodes functions as a cloud computing software platform, such as an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) solution. The software defined network may be an isolated virtual network. A computer program product and computer system corresponding to the methods are also disclosed herein.

The workflow request is parsed to locate at least one of the set of device specific operations and credentials. The located device specific operations and credentials are replaced with at least one logical device operation and logical credentials to create a generalized credential and protocol workflow.

Generalized credential and protocol management of infrastructure

In an embodiment of the present invention there is provided a method of managing virtual local area networks (VLANs) using abstract broadcast domains. First, a first broadcast domain having a first VLAN is established. Next, a second broadcast domain having a second VLAN is established. A third broadcast domain is then established, replacing both the first broadcast domain and the second broadcast domain. Thus, the first VLAN and the second VLAN are included in the third broadcast domain without having to physically manipulate switches or otherwise manipulate the logical connection between data processing systems. After aggregation, the first VLAN directly communicates with the second VLAN.

Using broadcast domains to manage virtual local area networks

To provide a more cost effective way to manage the infrastructure while addressing the security needs of a computerized data center, a technique for credential and protocol independent management of infrastructure in a computerized data processing system is provided. More cost effective and secure management is obtained through modified workflows used in the operational management of the computer data processing system. A workflow is first parsed to locate device specific operation requests. Such specifications are then replaced with logical equivalents. The resulting workflow is neutral with respect to both credentials and protocol. Prior to execution, the modified workflow is combined with information retrieved from a resource or by an administrator that further resolves the workflow to a specific target object or plurality of target objects. Security is enhanced through granular administration of user ID and password combinations which may be maintained separate from the workflows in which they are used.

Provisioning grid resources for a set of grid services is provided. The service performance for the set of grid services is monitored. The set of grid services has a set of service level agreements. In response to monitoring service performance, a determination is made as to whether current allocations of grid resources is sufficient to maintain performance levels for the set of grid services to meet the set of service level objectives. In response to the current allocations being insufficient to maintain the performance levels, the current allocations of the grid resources are dynamically reallocated or provisioned for the set of grid services to maintain service levels for the set of grid services.

Provisioning grid services to maintain service level agreements

The present invention provides dynamic configuration and allocation of resources in a data center. These resources are monitored for availability and performance information according to their assigned execution (or application) environments. The measured performance information for each environment is used to predict levels of demand for an application in the environment. From the predicted levels of demand resource requirements can be determined to provide a predetermined level of performance under the demand changes. The resources can then be reconfigured or reallocated to different environment so that the requirements of each environment can be met.

Method and system for managing resources in a data center

A system for the automatic detection and inventory of a network boot capable computer and for the automatic deployment of an appropriate operating system to the network boot capable computer. First, an initial broadcast packet from the network boot capable computer is received. In response to receiving the initial broadcast packet, a discovery kernel is sent to the network boot capable computer. The discovery kernel generates a hardware details file. The hardware details file is received from the network boot capable computer and is analyzed. After the hardware details file is analyzed, an appropriate operating system is deployed to the network boot capable computer.
