A threaded joint for joining tubes used especially in the field of OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods), such as pipes in gas or oil production and/or casings when drilling wells can include a pin and a coupling, or box, having an end surface not facing against any surface of the pin when the joint is made-up. Following make-up of the joint, first sealing surfaces of the pin and box mate to form an internal metal-to-metal seal, and second sealing surfaces of the pin and box mate to form an external metal-to-metal seal, where the internal and external seals are defined by contact between one toroidal surface and one frusto-conical surface.

Threaded joint sealed to internal and external pressures

A threaded joint comprises a coupling, a first pin, and a second pin, wherein the thread of the first pin has a pitch different from the pitch of the thread of the second pin. The extremities of the pins have slanted contact surfaces of complementary shape that make mutual contact after make-up of the joint. The slanted common plane of contact of both pins has an angle to the plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the joint which is greater than 0&#xb0;. In an alternative embodiment the contact surfaces of the pins are split into two staggered planes and comprise a seal in-between.

Threaded joint for tubes, pipes and the like

Thin-walled pipe joints can include a first pipe and a second pipe. The first pipe includes a hollow pin member positioned at about an end of the first pipe. The second pipe includes a hollow box member positioned at about an end of the second pipe. The hollow box member is further configured to at least partially surround the pin member of the first pipe. The joint also includes a first ring placed adjacent an end of the hollow pin member and a second ring engaged with the box member. The second ring substantially axially abuts against the first ring and the first ring substantially axially abuts the box member. The second ring further generally extends from the first ring in a direction opposite to the end of the pin member adjacent to the box member.

Thin-walled pipe joint

A coating which provides corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and, optionally, lubrication, for deposition on a threaded article is disclosed. The coating comprises a polymer matrix, such as a polyimide, which is modified with small amounts of a fluorine containing polymer modifier, as well as other compounds or additives to improve performance of the coating. Additionally, the coating can further comprise a solid lubricant or an anticorrosion compound dispersed within the polymer matrix.

Nanocomposite coatings for threaded connections

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for assembly of tubular joints which overcome the drawbacks and limitations of conventional joints. In certain embodiments, the tubular joints may comprise threaded joints used in oil exploration. Joints may be assembled using a combination of a) position control, b) specific production tolerances for thread parameters, and c) coatings applied on threaded areas of the joint. In further embodiments, the tubular joints may have no torque shoulder and/or metal to metal seals. In additional embodiments, the joints may be further assembled and disassembled several times without application of dope or grease and exhibit enhanced sealability. Beneficially, embodiments of the present disclosure may provide high tolerance, precisely assembled joints that provide improved performance (e.g., mechanical performance, sealability, corrosion resistance, lubrication) and reliability over non-premium connections without the expense associated with premium connections.

Joints having improved sealability, lubrication and corrosion resistance

Coating systems which provide corrosion resistance and, optionally, lubrication, for threaded connections are disclosed. The compositions comprise a first coating composition comprising polymer matrices of polyimides or epoxies which are modified with small amounts of a fluorine containing polymer. Also present in the coating compositions are corrosion inhibiting agents and inorganic particles having a mean diameter of between approximately 10 nm and 10 &#x3bc;m. Solid lubricants, which may include at least one of PTFE, HDPE, Graphite, and MoS, are optionally added to provide the first coating with a low coefficient of friction. The coating systems may further comprise a second coating composition, comprising a solid lubricant dispersed within an epoxy resin and a solvent. The first and second coating compositions are deposited on at least a portion of at least one of the pin and box members of the threaded connections.

A high torque threaded joint comprising a box member having threads and a pin member having threads () configured and positioned to mate with the threads of the box member. There is a flank-to-flank contact thread profile using trapezoidal threads with both a positive and very low load flank angle, (&#x3b2;or a); and a positive and very low stabbing flank () angle, (&#x3b2;, or b), wherein the threads are coated with a solid, dopefree surface treatment.

Super high torque dope-free threaded joint

A threaded metallic joint has the thread surface of pin () and box () covered with a coating comprising a first layer () laid on the overall surface of the pin member (), and a second layer () laid on part of the surfaces of either one of the pin or box members. In a first aspect, the coating comprises a first layer with high friction and anti-seize properties laid on the overall surface of the pin member (), and a second layer () with low friction properties laid on specific parts of the surfaces of either one of the pin or box members. Preferably the specific surfaces are those which are in reciprocal radial contact during make-up until pin and box reach the point where shoulders () abut. The second layer may contain polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). In a second aspect the first layer with a high friction and anti-seize properties laid on the overall surface of the box member ().

Threaded connections with high and low friction coatings

A threaded joint for pipes comprising at least one seal of the metal-metal interference type arranged externally to the female thread. The joint has an extension of the box beyond the seal which produces an elastic tightening band effect on the seal so that excessive interference on the seal is not necessary, thus favoring correct making up.

Threaded joint for pipes provided with seal

A radially expandable sealed tubular joint for use in oil and gas wells having a pair of radially expandable tubular elements each having threading at a free end thereof and coupled to one another to form a flush joint connection, the threading including hooked incomplete threads located at least adjacent the free ends, and a sealing substance extending between and adhering to the threading of one element and the threading of the other element, wherein after a radial expansion of the coupled pair of elements the sealing substance remains extended between and adhered to the threading of one element and the threading of the other element. The sealing substance is either a greaseless elastomeric sealant coated on one or both of the pair of elements or a pure metal applied to each of the pair of elements.

Method of forming a high-strength sealed connection for expandable tubulars

A pipe thread protector includes a case, a first seal member, and a second seal member. The case is attachable to an end of a pipe to protect a threaded region of the pipe. The case has a cylindrical or frustoconical portion having threads over at least a portion of its length to engage the threaded region of the pipe, and an annular end portion configured to abut a distal end of the pipe. A first seal member is disposed at the cylindrical portion of the case, and a second seal member is disposed at the annular end portion of the case. At least one of the first and second seal members (i) is detachable from the case, and (ii) comprises a material different than a material of the case.
