A method for printing a label pair made up of a destination address label and a corresponding destination Information-Based Indicia Program (IBIP) indicia label on a label stock in a system for printing one or more labels uses a unique identifying mark for each label of the label pair. The unique identifying marks allow a user to match a destination address label to a corresponding destination address IBIP indicia label. The software defines the method used to generate the unique identifying marks and the positioning of the labels with respect to each other.

Method for printing a label pair with information-based indicia program (IBIP) indicia

The invention is a method and system for printing a mail list in presort order, on a plurality of printers. The method begins with the preparation of a mail list within an addressing system. The mail list is presorted in accordance with postal service requirements. The presorted mail list is then divided into batches by container type. Container type is determined by selecting from among container types generally available to a mailer and which are in conformance with postal service regulations for containing presorted mail. The maximum mailpiece capacity of the container defines the point at where the presorted mail list is divided. After division into batches, the mail list is then directed to the printers for printing to envelopes. Each of the printers is selected based upon the batches that are to be printed and are configured to print based upon a container type corresponding to the batch. The batch size equals the corresponding container's capacity. The printer pauses after completion of the batch printing and notifies a system user that the batch has been printed. The printer does not print a next batch until allowed to do so by the system user. The system user can monitor the status of the process by referring to a monitor. Once printed, the batch of mailpieces is placed into its corresponding container, and the container is delivered to the postal service. In an alternative embodiment, direction of the print stream to the printers is accomplished by an external print director.

Method and system for printing a mail list in presort order on multiple printers

The present invention relates to a method and system for accurately measuring mail piece thickness for the purpose of determining postage discount qualification of a mail piece to be placed in a mail tray for receiving the maximum postage discount. The system includes a device for measuring the thickness of said mail piece and a user interface for entering data representing at least one postal address and the measured mail piece thickness. The system further includes a data processing system for processing the mail piece in accordance with the set of address data and the mail piece thickness, to produce a set of mail piece data. The data processing system is coupled to the thickness measuring device and the user interface and includes a memory for storing the sets of data. The system further sorts the sets of mail piece database upon postal guidelines such that qualification of a mail piece can be determined. Output is provided for displaying the resulting mail piece identifier.

Method and system for presorting mail based on mail piece thickness

The invention is a method and apparatus for generating a coded address list. The method is initiated by inputting an address list to a data processing device which then reads each address record on the address list. As an address record is read, a set of rules is applied to the record to determine whether or not a corresponding bar code can be assigned. If a bar code can be assigned, then the data processing device writes the address record and its corresponding bar code to a first list. If, however, a corresponding bar code is not determined for an address record, then the unmatched address record is posted to a second list. The first list is output for printing, while the second list is saved to memory. With respect to the second list, the system operator can: manually correct an address record on the list; delete the address record; or, output the address record to a printer for non-discounted mailing. The apparatus for generating the coded address lists comprises data processing means for accepting the address list and for accepting a set of postal service rules for coding the address records on the list. The data processing means has a memory for storing the postal service rules, and coding means for coding the address records. Additionally, the apparatus has compiler means for compiling the lists of coded and non-coded address records; and, output means for outputting the coded list for printing, and further for outputting a report.
