Systems and techniques for microservice latency reduction are described herein. A request may be received for execution of a microservice. An execution time may be calculated for the microservice. The execution time may be an estimation of time to complete execution of the microservice. A service level objective (SLO) may be identified. A processing unit of a computing node may be identified for execution of the microservice based on the precise execution time and the SLO. The microservice may be transmitted to the processing unit for instantiation.

Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for making a service request in Information Centric Networking (ICN) for next generation cellular networks. The apparatuses and methods can include at least generating, by a user equipment (UE), a service request message comprising access network (AN) parameters and service request parameters, wherein the AN parameters include a fifth generation-system architecture evolution-temporary mobile subscriber entity (5G-S-TMSI) parameter, a selected public land mobile network (PLMN) identifier, or an establishment cause; and transmitting, by the UE, the service request message to a next-generation NodeB (gNB).

Service request procedures in information centric networking for next generation cellular networks

System and techniques for information centric network unstructured data carrier are described herein. A user plane function (UPF) node receives an initiation for a packet data unit (PDU) session of user equipment (UE). Here, the initiation includes an indication for an ICN session and a PDU session identification (ID). The PDU session may then map the PDU session to the PDU session ID in an ICN routing data structure. Here, the ICN routing data structure is one or both of the pending interest table (PIT) or the forwarding interest base (FIB) of the UPF node. An ICN packet (interest or data packet) may be from the UE contained within a PDU on from the PDU session that conforms to an unstructured-data classification as defined by a 3GPP 5G family of standards. The ICN packet is extracted from the PDU and routed in accordance with the ICN routing data structure.

Information centric network unstructured data carrier

Technology for an Information Centric Networking gateway (ICN-GW) operable to modify an ICN message received from a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation (5G) cellular network is disclosed. The ICN-GW can decode the ICN message received from the UE via a Next Generation NodeB (gNB) and an ICN point of attachment (ICN-PoA). The ICN-GW can modify the ICN message to produce a modified ICN message. The ICN-GW can encode the modified ICN message to route the modified ICN message to a data network.

Supporting information centric networking in next generation cellular networks

System and techniques for capability discovery in an information centric network (ICN) are described herein. An ICN node receives a discovery packet that includes a discovery type corresponding to an indication of a node capability requested by a source node of the discovery packet. First capability data, from an intermediate node, is extracted from the discovery packet. The first capability data is stored locally by ICN node. Second capability data from the ICN node is added to the discovery packet to create an expanded discovery packet. The expanded discovery packet is then communicated by the ICN node.

Capability discovery in an information centric network

Systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for use in a wireless network for compression and decompression of information centric network (ICN) names and/or ICN common fields at Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. For example, an electronic device can include processor circuitry and radio front end circuitry coupled to the processor circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to receive a first information centric network (ICN) packet including an ICN name or an ICN common field and compress the ICN name or the ICN common field at a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) layer. The processor circuitry can be further configured to provide the compressed ICN name or the compressed ICN common field to a lower protocol layer. The radio front end circuitry can be configured to transmit a second ICN packet including the compressed ICN name or the compressed ICN common field.

Methods and systems for compression and decompression of information centric networking names at the packet data convergence protocol (PDCP)

Systems and methods of handover in an information-centric network are described. The ICN-CF receives an update request from an ICN ICN-AMF indicating handover of a UE from a source NG-RAN to a target NG-RAN. The ICN-CF transmits, to an ICN router, an update request to update a PIT and/or FIB table to enable data communications with the UE after handover. The request includes the UE and target NG-RAN, and if the source and target ICN-PoA are different, the source and target ICN-PoA and the ICN-GW.

Mobility management in information centric networking

Systems and techniques for information centric network (ICN) interworking are described herein. For example, a request may be received at a convergence layer of a node. Here, the request originates from an application on the node. A network protocol, from several available to the node, may be determined to transmit the request. The node then transmits the request via the selected network protocol.

Information centric network interworking techniques

Technology for an Information Centric Networking gateway (ICN-GW) operable to modify an ICN message received from a user equipment (UE) in a Fifth Generation (5G) cellular network is disclosed. A method for network coding at a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer by a next-generation NodeB (gNB) includes selecting a coding coefficient from a location in a Vandermonde matrix. The method includes setting an identifier value identifying the location in the Vandermonde matrix corresponding to the selected coding coefficient. The method includes encoding one or more packets each comprising a PDCP data unit. The encoding of at least one of the one or more packets includes applying a function to data in the packet, the function including the coding coefficient. The method includes generating a message comprising the at least one encoded packet. The method includes transmitting the message to a user equipment (UE).

Network coding at the packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) layer to increase communication reliability

Systems and methods of providing policy and charging control in an information-centric network are described. An interest packet is transmitted from a content consumer to a holder through a gNB, ICN-PoA and ICN-GW. The interest packet has a prefix identifying content to be retrieved and a type field indicating an interest packet. The ICN-PoA modifies the interest packet to include a type of service (TS) field having the identity of the consumer and then transmitted to the ICN-GW when the content is neither created nor cached inside the 5G network. A data packet that includes the prefix, a type field indicating a data packet and the TS field is returned from the ICN-GW. The data packet is modified by the ICN-PoA to remove the TS field and transmitted to the consumer. The interest and data packets are logged and reported to an ICN-CF for generation of charging records.

Policy and charging control (PCC) in information centric networking

Systems and methods for dynamic compute orchestration include receiving, at a network node of an information centric network, a first interest packet comprising a name field indicating a named function and one or more constraints specifying compute requirements for a computing node to execute the named function, the first interest packet received from a client node. A plurality of computing nodes are identified that satisfy the compute requirements for executing the named function. The first interest packet is forwarded to at least some of the plurality of computing nodes. Data packets are received from at least some of the plurality of computing nodes in response to the first interest packet. One of the plurality of computing nodes is selected based on the received data packets, and a second interest packet is sent to the selected one of the plurality of computing nodes instructing the selected one of the plurality of compute nodes to execute the named function.

Information centric network dynamic compute orchestration

Methods of operating an information centric network (ICN) control function (CF). At least one of the methods includes: processing an ICN create-service request received from an Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF); allocating one or more ICN point of attachments (ICN-PoAs) based on the ICN create-service request; and forwarding the ICN create-service request to at least one of the allocated one or more ICN-PoAs.
