A downhole tool suitable for use in a wellbore, the tool having a cone, a first sleeve, and a lower sleeve. The downhole tool includes the first sleeve, or a portion thereof, disposed around one end of the cone. After activation, the lower sleeve is engaged with the first sleeve, leaving a remnant cone-sleeve component configured to plug a restriction.

Downhole tool and method of use

A downhole tool suitable for use in a wellbore, the tool having a cone mandrel having a dual-cone outer surface. The downhole tool includes a carrier ring disposed around one end of the cone mandrel, and a seal element disposed around the carrier ring. There is a slip disposed around or proximate to an other end of the cone mandrel.

A downhole tool suitable for use in a wellbore, the tool having a double cone having a dual-cone outer surface. The downhole tool includes a carrier ring disposed around one end of the double cone, and a slip disposed around or proximate to an other end of the double cone. A setting tool assembly configured to couple with a part of a workstring, the assembly having an inner housing coupled with one or more other components. A trigger device is coupled with a movable piston. During run-in, the piston is in a first position. Upon activation, the trigger device undergoes an altering event whereby the piston moves to a second position as a result of a pressure acting thereon.

One-piece slip

The extrusion barrier for a sealing element for a packer or bridge plug is energized when set to store a retractive force that can be deployed when the packer or plug is released. The structure is a coiled spring that has gaps in the run in position and has a relaxed diameter smaller than the borehole or surrounding tubular dimension. When the packer is set a cone acts in conjunction with the spring to compress the coils together into contact while increasing the diameter to bridge an annular gap to act as an extrusion barrier. In the set position there is a restorative potential energy force that when the spring is allowed to relax retracts the shape back to the run in shape for removal of the packer or plug. Some of the trailing end coils are of a smaller diameter so that the structure can be clamped there for forcible axial movements in opposed directions.

Apparatus useful for remotely actuating the drag blocks of a downhole tool includes at least one remotely actuated sleeve configured to allow the drag blocks to move from one position to another when the downhole tool is disposed in a well bore.

A flapper valve includes a housing, a seat movably disposed at the housing at least between a first position and a second position, a flapper movably disposed at the seat at least between a seated position and an unseated position and at least two biasing members. A first biasing member is configured to bias the flapper toward the unseated position and the second biasing member is configured to bias the flapper toward the seated position.

Apparatus for a downhole tool in a well bore includes at least one locking mechanism and at least one sleeve. The locking mechanism is configured in a first position to prevent the upper slips from engaging the well bore wall before being positioned at the desired setting location in the well bore and is moveable into a second position that allows the upper slips to be moved into engagement with the well bore wall. A sleeve is moveable axially in the direction of the lower end of the downhole tool and configured to move the locking mechanism from its first to its second positions and also to move the upper slips axially relative to the downhole tool into engagement with the well bore wall.

Apparatus and methods for assisting in setting a downhole tool in a well bore

A method and apparatus for use in a subterranean well is described. The apparatus typically includes a mandrel and a packing element. The mandrel may have an outer surface and a non-circular cross-section and the packing element may be arranged about the mandrel, the packing element having a non-circular inner surface matching the mandrel outer surface such that concentric rotation between the mandrel and the packing element is precluded. The apparatus may include slips having cavities to facilitate removal of the apparatus. The apparatus also may include a valve for controlling upward fluid flow through a hollow mandrel. The valve may include a flapper having at least one tab to engage at least one recession in the mandrel such that rotation between the mandrel and the valve is precluded when the valve is in a closed position. The apparatus may further include a central member which is releaseably attached to the mandrel by a release mechanism.

Drillable bridge plug

An improved cone and integral slip assembly is described for use in the anchoring assembly of a downhole tool, such as a bridge plug, frac plug, or cement retainer. The cone may include external fins that are integral to and run axially along the cone. The integral slip assembly includes at least one axial slot, which facilitates subsequent breaking up of the integral slip assembly into individual slip segments. Each slip segment may include a channel that is adapted to mate with an external fin of the cone. As the integral slip assembly traverses the cone, the channels of the slip segments ride on the fins encouraging the integral slip assembly to break apart along the slots into the slip segments. The spacing of the fins and corresponding channels in the slip segments are positioned such to ensure that the slip segments are advantageously positioned around the cone thus, locating the packing element of the plug in the center of the wellbore. The channels in the slip segments mating with the fins also provide an anti-rotation mechanism to facilitate removal of the tool.
