An apparatus and system for generating pressure pulses for enhancing and completing a well bore within a pipe or coiled tubing operation including: a valve longitudinally and axially positioned within the center of a pulser section, a gearbox, and an impeller. The main fluid flow is interrupted by the main valve which is operated by a controlled pilot fluid stream. The pilot fluid stream is controlled by a determined rotation of a gearbox driven by an impeller located centrally and axially and connected to the gearbox. Most specifically, the system utilizes pulse technology to improve weight transfer in horizontal wells by modulating flow, pressure and weight on the bit. The system can be used to overcome coiled tubing (CT) drill out challenges by overcoming friction forces that impede the downhole reach.

An apparatus, method, and system for generating pressure pulses in a drilling fluid flowing within coiled tubing assembly is described that includes; a flow throttling device longitudinally and axially positioned within the center of a main valve actuator assembly that allows main exit flow fluid to flow past a drive shaft and motor such that the pilot fluid and the main exit flow fluid causes one or more flow throttling devices to generate large, rapid controllable pulses. The pulses generated by the flow throttling device thereby allow transmission of well-developed signals easily distinguished from any noise resulting from other vibrations due to nearby equipment within the borehole or exterior to the borehole, or within the coiled tubing assembly wherein the signals also provide predetermined height, width and shape of the signals.

An apparatus and system for generating pressure pulses for enhancing and completing a well bore within a coiled tubing assembly including: a CT-MWD-FTD tool longitudinally and axially positioned within the center of a main valve assembly including a main valve. The drilling fluid is subsequently split into both an inlet main fluid stream and a pilot fluid stream, wherein the pilot fluid stream subsequently flows such that the pilot fluid recombines with the main flow stream to become a main exit fluid flow. The main exit fluid flow then proceeds toward a motor housing wherein one or more annular pressure sensors measure the pressure of fluid flow with sensors that send signals to a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that controls flow throttling devices which generate controllable, large, rapid and measurable energy pulses.

Controlled pressure pulser for coiled tubing measurement while drilling applications

The present invention relates to the vertical seismic profiling (VSP) of geological formations in which profiling is used to obtain information for performing precise interpretations of geophysical seismic data and better understanding of geophysical information. The disclosure involves using a sound source for generating primary and secondary seismic pulses within well boreholes. The seismic profiling system obtains information regarding a geological formation traversed by a borehole with controllable downhole seismic pulse generators with drill string tool(s). The tool(s) have contact with and are coupled to the formation. A seismic pulsing device (SPD) is attached to a portion of the drill string and a valve controller is used to control opening and closing the valve causing high amplitude short duration ultra wide band pressure pulses, generating primary seismic waves sent into surrounding geological formations. This generates secondary seismic waves received that can be detected by geophones or similar devices.

A hydroelectric control valve (HCV) for a fluid pipeline including an inlet and outlet section attached to a pipeline wherein fluid flows into and out of the HCV that comprises a bell section and a seat reservoir section which are both capped, where the bell section and the seat reservoir section are aligned with each other and are also perpendicular to fluid flowing through the pipeline. An electrical poppet channel is attached to the bell section, such that the bell section includes a bell relief channel in fluid communication with an outlet section and also a separate hydroelectric poppet channel in communication with a locating needle head as well as including a turbine and turbine channel where the turbine channel connects the input section and the seat reservoir and where the seat reservoir section includes a seat reservoir relief channel also in fluid communication with the output section.

Herein described is a hydroelectric control valve (HCV) for a fluid pipeline including an inlet and outlet (or input and output) section attached to the same pipeline wherein fluid flows into and out of the HCV comprising a bell reservoir section and a seat reservoir section which are both capped, where the bell reservoir section and the seat reservoir section are aligned with each other and are also perpendicular to fluid flowing through the pipeline. A channel which can be electrically activated and thus controlled is attached to a bell section, such that a bell reservoir section includes a bell relief channel in fluid communication with an outlet section and also a separate hydraulic poppet channel in communication with a locating needle head. In addition, turbine and deactivation channels are employed such that the deactivation channel connects the input section and the seat reservoir.

An apparatus, method, and system described for generating pressure pulses in drilling fluid utilizing a flow throttling device which includes a controllable pulser operating sequentially within a downhole assembly within a drill string of a drill pipe. The system includes drilling fluid, fluid flow, and fluid drilling pump which when combined creates fluid flow into a bore pipe annulus within the downhole assembly creating a base line bore pipe pressure wherein bore pipe pressure is sensed via a sensor and information is sent to a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that interprets the information. The DSP also receives information from an annulus pressure sensor that senses drilling fluid pressure as it returns to the pump. The DSP recognizes pressure variation input from the annulus pressure sensor and bore pipe pressure sensor and detects pressure variation providing signals as data information to the DSP, determining required action to adjust pulser operation.

An apparatus, method, and system described for generating pressure pulses in a drilling fluid utilizing a flow throttling device longitudinally and axially positioned within the center of a main valve actuator assembly is described. The main valve actuator assembly includes a main valve pressure chamber, a magnetic cup encompassing a rotary magnetic coupling, and a pilot actuator assembly. Passage of drilling fluid through a series of orifices, valves, shields, and screens where the fluid eventually combines with a pilot exit fluid that flows toward a main exit flow such that as the fluid becomes a pilot fluid that ultimately combines with the main flow such that the combined fluid causes one or more flow throttling devices to generate large, rapid controllable pulses that produce transmission of well developed signals easily distinguished from other noise resulting from other vibrations due to nearby equipment that is within or exterior to the borehole such that the signals also provide predetermined height, width and shape.

Disclosed is an apparatus, method and system comprising one or more devices capable of modulating fluid flow, the fluid being a liquid or a gas resulting in a pressure fluctuation in a fluid flowing within a flow channel, comprising: a flow modulating device that acts as a servo valve such that the device comprises a shaft and a moveable actuator that slides along the shaft, wherein the shaft and the actuator are positioned at any angle within a principal fluid flow channel such that the fluid flows through the principal fluid flow channel. The fluid flowing within the principal fluid flow channel is selectively reversible and the fluid is connected to both an inner pilot flow channel and the principal fluid flow channel wherein the flow modulating device includes a particulate barrier system having at least one seal system comprising an upper outer seal and a lower outer seal prohibiting fluid particulates from entering the inner pilot flow channel and also includes an upper inner seal and a lower inner seal that further prohibit residual particulates from reaching any mating surface between the shaft of the flow modulating device and the upper seal, the upper inner seal, the lower outer seal, and the lower inner seal. The particulate barrier system operates in a fluid flow field wherein the fluid can flow in any direction and utilizes a sealing system wherein an upper outer seal and a lower outer seal prohibit particulates from reaching the respective surfaces of an upper inner seal and lower inner seal of the flow modulating device. An upper inner seal and lower inner seal further prohibit residual particulates from reaching surfaces between the seal and that of the shaft of the flow modulating device.

Disclosed are a system, device, and method for generating pulse signals that correlate to geological information in a wellbore. The system and method comprises a pulse generating device longitudinally and axially positioned within an annular drill collar flow channel such that the drilling fluid flows through the annular drill collar flow channel and the drilling fluid is guided into two sets of selectively reversible flow, upper and lower flow connecting channels, wherein the connecting channels are connected to an inner flow channel and the annular drill collar flow channel, and wherein the annular drill collar flow channel is acted upon by one or more flow throttling devices thereby transmitting signals. The device utilizes a turbine residing near and within proximity of a flow diverter that diverts drilling mud into and away from turbine blades such that the force of the drilling mud causes the turbine blades and the turbine to rotationally spin around a coil assembly.
