A disposable substantially damp cleansing article is disclosed having a cleansing composition impregnated onto a flexible substrate such as a non-woven cloth. The impregnated compositions include lathering surfactants and water, and a water-binding agent resulting in a composition having a water activity less than 0.977 but no lower than 0.001. Amounts of water range from greater than 15% to no higher than about 40% by weight of the total article. Speed of lather formation and foam volume increases within the window of the stated water activity and water range.

Damp cleansing wipe

An oral product and method is provided for inhibiting tartar formation on the teeth. The product is housed in a container and includes a first composition containing a water soluble calcium phosphate salt or monolithic combination of calcium and phosphate salts in a carrier with the first composition having a pH less than 7, and a second composition containing an alkaline material and a fluoride ion source in a carrier to achieve a pH greater than 7.5. The first and second compositions are separated from one another prior to use. When combined upon application to the teeth, the first and second compositions form a system for inhibiting tartar around the teeth.

Anti-tartar dental product and method

An oral product and method is provided for remineralizing teeth. The product includes a first composition containing a water soluble calcium phosphate salt or monolithic combination of calcium and phosphate salts in a carrier with the first composition having a pH less than 7, and a second composition containing an alkaline material and a fluoride ion source in a carrier to achieve a pH greater than 7.5. The first and second compositions are separated from one another prior to use. When combined upon application to teeth, the first and second compositions generate hydroxyapatite depositing same on dental enamel.

A hair treatment composition is provided that includes a water-insoluble, dispersible polymeric resin having a viscosity of less than 2 centipoise at 25.degree. C. when dispersed at 10% in water and a water-soluble amphoteric polymer.

Hair treatment composition

A hairspray composition is described that includes a nonionic polymer and an anionic polymer. The nonionic polymer is formed from monomers having at least one unneutralized carboxylic acid. The anionic polymer is identical to the nonionic one, except that all of the carboxylic acid groups are in salt form. Advantageously, the composition further includes an acrylic resin, most especially an amphoteric one. Best results are achieved when the acrylic resin is neutralized with a relatively small cation such as potassium and a second cation of a water soluble fatty amine. These compositions employ water as the carrier and dimethyl ether as propellant.

Sprayable hair treatment composition

A hair treatment composition for use with spray dispensers is provided which includes a crosslinked C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymer, a nonionic, surfactant and a film-forming resin. Preferably the compositions are transparent gels. They exhibit reduced clogging of spray nozzle pumps and provide excellent sensory properties.

Hair treatment compostion

Hair styling mousse compositions are provided based on a combination of water soluble film-forming resin, an amphoteric surfactant and a propellant system. The system requires a combination of C.sub.3 -C.sub.5 alkane hydrocarbon and dimethyl ether in a respective weight ratio from 4:1 to 1:2.

An aqueous hair treatment composition is provided that includes a water-soluble polymer having a solution viscosity at 10% in water of less than about 20,000 cps at 25.degree. C., and a latex of water-insoluble polymeric particles dispersed in water and having a glass transition temperature between 250 and 300.degree. K., the average particle size being no higher than about 3 microns. Preferably the latex particles are formed from respective monomers by emulsion polymerization.

Hairspray compositions

This invention relates to improved hair waving and straightening compositions of matter. The novel compositions of matter of this invention comprise a sulfite and/or bisulfite reducing system, urea, a cationic polyquaternary resin of such a nature that in combination with the urea in the reducing system a hair waving and/or straightening effect equivalent to conventional thioglycolate systems is effectuated without the attendant unpleasant odors associated with the thioglycolate systems. In addition, the reducing system of this invention is less damaging to the hair and skin than the thioglycolate systems. The system of course may be used either with or without heat such as heat from hair dryers. In order to achieve the above-mentioned objective, the compositions of this invention are at a pH in the range of above 5.5 to about 8.5, preferably 6.5. Such hair waving and straightening compositions may contain any conventional additives employed in the known sulfite and/or bisulfite (e.g. wetting agent, fragrance compounds, coloring agents, thickening agents, opacifying agents, sequestering agents, solubilizing agents, conditioning agents, etc.). The novel hair waving and straightening compositions of this invention are used in conjunction with conventional neutralizing compositions used for conventional hair waving compositions. As is well-known, such neutralizing compositions contain oxidizing agents capable of restoring the disulfide linkages in the hair keratin during the resetting stage.

Hair waving and straightening composition

A hair treatment composition is provided that includes a water-insoluble, dispersible polymeric resin having a viscosity of less than 2 centipoise at 25.degree. C. when dispersed at 10% in water; a water-soluble polymeric resin having a viscosity greater than 6 centipoise at 25.degree. C. when 10% is placed in water; and a water-soluble polymer of molecular weight greater than about 500,000. Illustrative of the water-insoluble resin is a diglycol/cyclohexanedimethanol/isophthalates/sulfoisophthalates polyester. Preferably the water-soluble polymeric resin is a copolymer of polyvinyl-pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate. The preferred water-soluble polymer is polyvinylpyrrolidone, especially a polymer having molecular weight of around 630,000.
