A video sequence may include a modality corresponding with an embedded pattern. At least one state machine detects the modality in accordance with difference signals. A signal generator generates the difference signals responsive to decision windows that define regions of interest in the video sequence. The modality may correspond with an embedded film source or other pattern types in the video sequence. Where the state machine detects more than one pattern, a single pattern is selected according to a predetermined priority. The video sequence may contain both static patterns and embedded film source patterns. The state machine discerns the presence of the embedded film source patterns notwithstanding the presence of the static patterns.

System and method for detecting a non-video source in video signals

A method is provided for selecting a filter for interpolating a target pixel for reducing noise in an image. The method comprises the following steps. A plurality of pixels along a predetermined contour is compared with a plurality of predefined patterns. The patterns represent visually significant patterns possible along said contour. A filter is selected from a predefined set of filters in accordance with the results of the comparison.

System and method for reducing noise in images

A method for interpolating a target pixel from a plurality of source pixels in a high contrast image. The method comprises the following steps. A window of the plurality of source pixels is examined and compared with a plurality of predefined conditions for determining if a structure of significance is present within the window. A filter configuration is selected from a plurality of filter configurations in accordance with results of the comparison. The selected filter is applied to the source pixels for interpolating the target pixel. If the structure of significance is detected in the window, the selected filter best preserves the structure.

System and method of scaling images using adaptive nearest neighbor

A system detects a non-video source embedded in a video sequence and provides direction to a deinterlacing algorithm accordingly. The system comprises a signal generator for generating a plurality of signals. The signals are generated in accordance with pixels input from the video sequence. The system further comprises a plurality of pattern detection state machines, each for receiving the signals and for detecting a pattern in the video sequence. The pattern is detected in accordance with a preset threshold, wherein the pattern detection state machine varies the preset threshold in accordance with the received signals. The system further comprises an arbiter state machine coupled with the plurality of pattern detection state machines for governing the pattern detection state machines and for determining whether or not a non-video source is embedded in the video sequence.

Contrast in an image is enhanced by mapping an input intensity value to an output intensity value in accordance with a mapping function. A mean intensity value of the image is determined. Co-ordinates of the mapping function are calculated in accordance with the mean intensity value and a plurality of predefined parameters. The mapping function is applied to the input intensity value for determining the output intensity, wherein the mapping function is generated dynamically for each image.

System and method for dynamically enhanced color space

An adaptive filter calculates a target pixel from an interlaced video signal. The video signal comprises a plurality of frames, each of which comprises an even and an odd field. The filter comprises a quantized motion calculator and a filter selector. The quantized motion calculator estimates an amount of motion about the target pixel. The filter selector selects a filter in accordance with the estimated amount of motion. The filter applies a first weighting factor to a plurality of current field pixels and a second weighting factor to a plurality of previous field pixels for creating the target pixel.

Method and apparatus for motion adaptive deinterlacing

The present invention provides an ADC apparatus and method for improving effective bit resolution and suppressing digital reconstruction artifacts with an anti-aliasing filter and an over-sampled input. ADC resolution can be increased by combining a dither signal with a sampled signal and then after digitization, filtering out the dithered signal. Designing a notch in the filter corresponding to the attenuation frequency attenuates residual effects.
