The regulator supply valve (100, 101, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 740) of the present invention provides regulated fluid pressure for adaptive braking and traction control systems (10, 710) operation. The regulator supply valve (100, 101, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600) and system (10) may be supplied as an add-on feature for a standard braking system. During adaptive braking system operation, pressure from a chamber (28, 30; 718, 716) of a master cylinder (12, 712) causes the regulator supply valve (100, 101, 200, 300, 400, 740) to communicate a pressure source (35, 720) with modulators 41, 42; 51, 52; 61, 62, 71; 746, 748, 752; 746', 748', 752') for respective wheel brakes (40, 50, 60, 70; 750, 760). During traction control operation, an electronic control unit (200, 700) of the system (10, 710) activates a solenoid (104, 106; 204, 206; 304, 306, 404, 406; 504, 506; 604, 606; 783, 784) to cause the regulator supply valve (100, 101, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 740) to open controllably the communication between the pressure source (35, 720) and modulator valves (41, 42; 51, 52; 61, 62, 71; 746, 748, 752; 746', 748', 752'). The regulator supply valve (740) may be located within a boosted master cylinder (712) such that it is activated during both adaptive braking and traction control operation to enable the pressure source (720) to communicate with modulators (746, 748, 752; 746', 748', 752').

The pressure supply valve (40) provides hydraulic pressure from a pressure source (20) to the system modulators (46, 46', 48, 48', 52, 52') and isolates a hydraulic boost chamber (34) of a boosted master cylinder (12). The pressure supply valve (40) includes an armature (83) operated piston valve (72) having a through opening (79), a valve seat (85) of the piston valve (72) engageable with a ball valve (68). The ball valve (68) normally prevents fluid flow from the pressure source (20) to the modulators (46, 46', 48, 48', 52, 52'), and the piston valve (72) permits fluid flow through itself during normal and adaptive braking. During traction control operation, the piston valve (72) displaces the ball valve (68) and permits the pressure source (20) to communicate with the modulators (46, 46', 48, 48', 52, 52').

The master cylinder (12, 212) comprises either a nonboosted master cylinder (12), a vacuum servomotor (14) boosted master cylinder (12), or a hydraulic pressure boosted master cylinder (212), each of which includes a fluid supply regulator (37) disposed within an end (26) of the master cylinder (12, 212). The fluid supply regulator (37) comprises a regulator valve (40) disposed within a stepped bore (34, 234) at the end (26) of the master cylinder (12, 212), the stepped bore (34, 234) communicating with the secondary pressure chamber (32, 232) of the master cylinder (12, 212). Hydraulic pressure generated by movement of the secondary piston (18, 218) causes the supply reguglator valve (40) to be displaced and open a valve (54) within the stepped bore (34, 234) to permit pressure from a pump (70) and an accumulator (60) to be supplied to the adaptive braking system (80). If the master cylinder (12, 212) should experience a fluid pressure failure, a full stroke displacement of the secondary piston (18, 218) by the vehicle operator causes the secondary piston (18, 218) to engage and displace the supply regulator valve (40) so that fluid pressure is communicated to the adaptive braking system (80) and is directly proportional to the vehicle driver's input force.

A control valve assembly for use in an anti-lock braking system wherein a 3-way isolation valve normally connects a wheel cylinder to a master cylinder and isolates that wheel cylinder(s) from the master cylinder and simultaneously connects the wheel cylinder to the common connection of a pressure modulating unit when the anti-lock system has been energized. The assembly enables use of a three channel anti-lock system in a dual circuit cross split brake system and increases the protection of the normal brake circuit from leakage in the modulating unit.

A differential pressure switch includes a housing which carries a switch assembly which is actuated by movement of a differential pressure responsive piston slidable within the housing. The piston shifts in response to pressure differentials between the pressure levels in the chambers defined between the ends of the piston and the corresponding ends of the housing. The piston includes a pressure responsive stop that responds to pressure levels above a predetermined pressure level to engage the housing to thereby prevent shifting of the piston and actuation of the switch assembly regardless of the pressure differential across the piston, thereby limiting operation of the pressure switch to pressure levels below the predetermined maximum pressure level.

Disclosed is an integrated isolation/modulation valve for use in an anti-lock brake system which incorporates a spool valve element and a solenoid actuated valve. The solenoid actuated valve responds to control signals from an anti-lock brake system, the valve being normally closed and operable to an open position to produce a differential pressure across the spool valve. Movement of the spool valve in response to the differential pressure interrupts fluid communication between the brake system's master cylinder and wheel cylinders and simultaneously connects the wheel cylinder to the system's pressurized fluid source through an orifice which effects controlled building of brake pressure.

An integrated solenoid actuated control valve useful in a fluid system such as an anti-lock braking system. The valve incorporates a solenoid actuated valve and a sliding valve responsive to differential pressure to provide fluid pressure isolation, build, and decay control in a single valve assembly.
