A tool for implanting an orthopedic implant upon a bone includes a body defining an implant socket for releasably retaining an implant and a drill guide opening into the implant socket. The body is an insert receivable in an insert socket of a movable end of the tool. The tool also includes a tip toward which the implant socket faces and opposedly movable relative to the body. The tool is usable in a process that includes clamping a bone between the tip and the implant while the implant is retained in the implant socket. While the bone is clamped, a drill is driven through the drill guide to produce a hole in the bone.

An orthopedic assembly includes a tibial prosthesis that includes a body that defines an anterior side and a posterior side. The body further incudes a recess in the anterior side of the joint prosthesis and a plurality of openings that extend through the body from the anterior side to the posterior side thereof. At least a first and second opening of the openings are positioned at respective lateral and medial sides of a longitudinal axis of the tibial prosthesis. A modular insert is positioned within the recess of the body such that at least a portion of the modular insert is positioned between the openings of the body. The modular insert is formed separately from the tibial prosthesis and has a porous outer surface to promote tissue ingrowth.

An orthopedic assembly includes a tibial prosthesis that includes a body that defines an anterior side and a posterior side. The body further includes a recess in the anterior side of the joint prosthesis and a plurality of openings that extend through the body from the anterior side to the posterior side thereof. A modular insert is positioned within the recess of the body such that at least a portion of the modular insert is positioned between the openings of the body. The modular stem component may include a shaft portion, a head, and a sleeve. The shaft portion is configured for receipt within the intramedullary canal of a bone and the head is configured to receive another component of a modular prosthetic system, such as a femoral neck, thereon. In one exemplary embodiment, the head extends radially around at least a portion of the stem and includes a rib defining a flange extending therefrom. The sleeve, which is formed as an independent part of the modular stem component and is made at least partially of a highly porous biomaterial, includes opposing ends and has a bore extending therethrough. The bore is configured to facilitate sliding receipt of the sleeve on the head.

Methods and apparatuses for attaching tissue structures to orthopaedic implants. In one exemplary embodiment, the methods and apparatuses are used to attach soft tissue and/or bone to a proximal tibial implant. In another exemplary embodiment, the methods and apparatuses are used to attach soft tissue and/or bone to a proximal femoral implant.

Methods and apparatuses for attaching tissue to orthopaedic implants

An implant assembly comprises a stem and an augment. The augment includes a porous outer region which is integrally formed onto a solid inner region. The augment further includes, solid posts integrally formed on the solid inner region and extend through the porous outer region to the outer surface of the augment. The posts are integrally formed with and surrounded by the porous region and are designed to allow assembly of the augment to the stem without damaging the structure of the porous region. A method of attaching the augment is described, wherein a tool is designed to grip to posts of the augment and apply loads through these posts during assembly.

A constrained prosthetic knee having a modular hinge post and a rotating bearing. A cannulated hinge post is rotatably connected to the femoral component of the knee prosthesis so that a hinge post extension may be anteriorly positioned through the hinge post and into the tibial component of the knee prosthesis, after positioning of the femoral component in the femur and the tibial component in the tibia. The hinge post is preassembled to the femoral component so that such assembly is not required during the implantation procedure. A meniscal component forming the rotating bearing of the knee prosthesis is packaged together with the hinge post extension so that the appropriate hinge post extension is readily available. The meniscal component includes a mechanism for preventing lift off of the meniscal component from the tibial component, while allowing rotation of the meniscal component relative to the tibial component.
