The present invention provides a method for preparing an oligomer and a catalyst comprising a step of oligomerizing a polymerizable monomer containing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst, which comprises (A) a complex of a diimine compound and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Group 8 elements, Group 9 elements and Group 10 elements, (B) a mixture of a pyridine diimine compound and an iron salt and/or an iron complex, (C) methylaluminoxane and/or a boron compound, and (D) an organoaluminum compound other than methylaluminoxane and/or an organozinc compound. Olefin polymerization catalyst and method for producing olefin oligomer

The present invention is drawn to a tetracyclododecene composition having a regulated cyclopentadiene trimer content, whereby addition polymerization with the aid of a Ziegler catalyst can be carried out while preventing gelation caused by a cross-linking reaction. A tetracyclododecene composition regulated with respect to the content of a specific ingredient having a molecular weight of 188 is disclosed, whereby polymers having high glass transition temperatures can be obtained through various polymerizations. Further, the present invention is drawn to a method for producing tetracyclododecene in the presence of an aliphatic solvent having a boiling point close to that of norbornene, which solvent is effective in inhibiting the recovered norbornene from solidifying. Preferred for obtaining high purity tetracyclododecene by removing the methyltetrahydroindene contained in dicyclopentadiene feedstock is a continuous process comprising a combination of reaction, distillation, and recovery/circulation, and so forth.

Tetracyclododecene compositions and process for producing the same

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of tetracyclododecenes, which can be a raw material of cycloolefin (co)polymers possessing excellent characters concerning their optical property, high transparency, heat resistance, and oil absorbency, from an inexpensive raw material of crude DCPD in a stable, continuous, and longstanding process. In the continuous preparation of tetracyclododecenes described in the present invention, it is possible to produce the targeted product in high efficiencies in the effective utilization of the raw materials exemplified by the separation and recovery of 2-norbornenes after the reaction. It is also possible to maintain a stable, continuous, and longstanding operation based on the suppression of ill effects deriving from the accumulation of byproducts such as 2-methyl-2-norbornenes, which easily creep into the circulating 2-norbornenes, by removing at least a part of said products from the reaction system.

Process for the continuous preparation of tetracyclododecens

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of highly purified tetracyclododecenes, which can be a raw material of cycloolefin (co)polymers possessing excellent characters concerning their optical property, high transparency, heat resistance, and oil absorbency, from an inexpensive raw material of crude DCPD in a stable, continuous, and longstanding process. In the continuous preparation of tetracyclododecenes described in the present invention, it is possible to employ crude dicyclopentadiene, that is, dicyclopentadiene having low purity, as a raw material. It is also possible to produce highly purified tetracyclododecenes by maintaining the ratios of one, two, or three compounds selected from the group comprising isoprene, piperylene, and 1-methyl-2-norbornenes shown by the general formula (4) against the sum of dicyclopentadiene and cyclopentadiene within the specified ranges, wherein all these substances are contained in the raw material that are fed into a reactor.

A catalyst useful for the alkylation of isoalkanes is disclosed along with a process therefor the same. The catalyst comprises a zirconium halide and at least one member of the group consisting of sulfate basic sulfate, copper halide, copper nitrate and copper salt of an organic acid. The process for the alkylation of isoalkanes with alkenes is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a zirconium halide and at least one member of the group consisting of sulfate, basic sulfate, copper halide, copper nitrate and copper salt of an organic acid at a temperature of room temperature--200.degree. C. and a pressure of atmospheric -5 MPa.

Catalyst for use in the alkylation of isoalkanes

A catalyst useful for the alkylation of isoalkanes is disclosed along with a process therefor the same. The catalyst comprises a reaction product resulting from mutual contact of a zirconium halide and a magnesium halide and/or a magnesium oxyhalide. The process for the alkylation of isoalkanes with alkenes is carried out in the presence of a catalyst comprising a reaction product resulting from mutual contact of a zirconium halide and a magnesium halide and/or a magnesium oxyhalide at a temperature of room temperature--150.degree. C. and a pressure of atmospheric--5 MPa.

According to the present invention there is provide a catalyst capable of affording an olefin homopolymer or copolymer having a high molecular weight and a relatively wide molecular weight distribution, in high yield, using an extremely small amount of a modified organoaluminum compound (particularly methylaluminoxane).
