A hermetically sealed battery includes a battery can having a bottomed cylindrical shape and an opening, an electrode body accommodated in the battery can, a sealing plate covering the opening of the battery can, a rivet disposed on the sealing plate and serving as a terminal, an insulator insulates the sealing plate from the rivet, and an internal lead electrically connected to the rivet. The insulator includes a sealing part sealing between the sealing plate and the rivet and a plate part closer to the electrode body than the sealing part, the plate part being extended in a radial direction of the electrode body. The plate part has a cut-away portion recessed in a periphery of the plate part in the radial direction. The internal lead is partially disposed in the cut-away portion.

Hermetically sealed battery

A lithium primary battery including a current collecting wire that electrically connects an electrode body and a sealing body or a battery can, in which the electrode body includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator, the negative electrode includes at least one selected from the group consisting of metal lithium and a lithium alloy, the current collecting wire includes a first lead connected to one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode, a second lead connected to the sealing body or the battery can, and an overdischarge suppressing element interposed between the first lead and the second lead, the overdischarge suppressing element includes a first metal layer connected to the first lead, with the first metal layer being thinner than the first lead, a second metal layer connected to the second lead, with the second metal layer being thinner than the second lead, and a conductive layer interposed between the first metal layer and the second metal layer disposed to face each other, the conductive layer includes a resin and a conductive material dispersed in the resin, and the conductive material inserts lithium ions at a potential that is lower than that of the positive electrode.

Lithium primary battery

A lithium primary battery includes a wound electrode body obtained by winding a sheet-like positive electrode, a sheet-like negative electrode, and a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The positive electrode includes manganese dioxide as a positive electrode active material. The negative electrode includes at least one selected from the group consisting of metallic lithium and lithium alloys, and has a first principal surface and a second principal surface opposite to the first principal surface. An entire surface of each of the first principal surface and the second principal surface faces the positive electrode. A total area of the first principal surface and the second principal surface is 100 cmor more and 180 cmor less.

A positive electrode, a negative electrode containing lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte having lithium ion conductivity are installed. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a nonaqueous solvent and a solute. The positive electrode contains a positive electrode active material containing at least manganese dioxide, a conductive agent, and a binding agent and further contains an oxide and sulfate of a rare-earth element.

A lithium primary battery includes a positive electrodeusing iron sulfide as a positive electrode active material, a negative electrodeusing a lithium alloy as a negative electrode active material, an electrode groupformed by winding the positive and negative electrodeswith a separatorbeing interposed therebetween, and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution. The lithium alloy contains at least one of magnesium or tin in a range of 0.02-0.2 mol %.

A lithium ion secondary battery includes: (a) a positive electrode plate comprising an active material part and a current collector carrying the active material part, the active material part comprising a positive electrode active material capable of absorbing or desorbing a lithium ion during charge and discharge; (b) a negative electrode plate comprising an active material part and a current collector carrying the active material part, the active material part comprising a negative electrode active material capable of absorbing or desorbing a lithium ion during charge and discharge; (c) a separator interposed between the positive and negative electrode plates; (d) an electrolyte; and (e) a battery case accommodating the positive and negative electrode plates, the separator, and the electrolyte. The positive and negative electrode plates are wound with the separator interposed therebetween, thereby to form an electrode plate assembly. The electrode plate assembly is so configured that each lengthwise edge of the positive electrode current collector is positioned on an outer side of each lengthwise edge of the negative electrode active material part.

Lithium ion secondary battery

In a portable power source system comprising a battery pack for accommodating at least one secondary battery and a mounting part for mounting the battery pack, the mounting part is disposed in power using equipment, the battery pack comprises a charge circuit having a charge terminal and a discharge circuit having a discharge terminal, the charge circuit comprises a control circuit for controlling a voltage and a current during charging, the mounting part comprises a protruding external terminal for connecting with the discharge terminal, the battery pack comprises an inserting part for inserting the external terminal, the discharge terminal is disposed in a concealed position inside the inserting part, the battery pack is movable from an initial position to a fixing position while the external terminal has been inserted in the inserting part, and connection between the external terminal and the discharge terminal is achieved at the fixing position.

Portable power source system

A secondary battery including an electrode group formed by winding a positive electrode and a negative electrode with the interposition of a separator, the positive electrode includes a belt-shaped positive electrode core and a positive electrode material mixture carried on the positive electrode core, the negative electrode includes a belt-shaped negative electrode core and a negative electrode material mixture carried on the negative electrode core, at least one of the positive electrode and the negative electrode has an end portion parallel to the lengthwise direction thereof exposing the core, the end portion positioned at an end face of the electrode group is directly connected to a current collector plate, and at least part of the current collector plate is exposed outside at the bottom of a battery case.

Secondary battery

In a nickel-metal hydride storage battery comprising: an electrode plate assembly including current collectors on the top and bottom portions; an alkaline electrolyte; and a battery case having a substantially rectangular parallelepiped part for accommodating the electrode plate assembly and the alkaline electrolyte, the capacity degradation due to deep discharge and reverse charge inherent to a nickel-metal hydride storage battery is suppressed by setting the amount of the alkaline electrolyte at 70 to 90% of the volume V of the residual space in the battery represented by the equation (1): V=S&#xb7;h&#x2212;(V+V+V+V) (1), where S is the cross sectional area of the inner space of the substantially rectangular parallelepiped part, h is the height of the electrode plate assembly, Vis the true volume of the positive electrode plate, Vis the true volume of the negative electrode plate, Vis the true volume of the separator, and Vis the volume of the two current collectors.

Nickel-metal hydride storage battery and assembly of the same

The paste type positive electrode of the present invention contains a first active material and a second active material. The first active material comprises X parts by weight of particulate nickel hydroxide with aX/100 parts by weight of cobalt oxyhydroxide carried thereon. The second active material comprises Y parts by weight of particulate nickel oxyhydroxide, of which an oxidation number of nickel is &#x3b1;, with bY/100 parts by weight of cobalt oxyhydroxide carried thereon. Here, all the following relations are satisfied: (1) 2.5&#x2266;&#x3b1;&#x3c;3.0, (2) 0.01&#x2266;(aX/100+bY/100)/(X+Y)&#x2266;0.20, (3) 0&#x3c;b&#x2266;a&#x2266;10 or 0=b&#x3c;a&#x2266;10, and (4) 2.1&#x2266;(2X+&#x3b1;Y)/(X+Y)&#x3c;2.2.

Paste type positive electrode for alkaline storage battery, and nickel-metal hydride storage battery

The present invention provides a high-capacity sealed nickel-metal hydride storage battery superior in high-current discharge, without extending the injection time of an electrolyte. This battery includes an electrode group, a metal case for accommodating the electrode group, and a seal plate provided with a safety vent, for sealing an opening of the case, and the electrode group has a structure in which, round a non-sintered type cylindrical electrode of one polarity, a non-sintered type hollow cylindrical electrode of the other polarity and a non-sintered type hollow cylindrical electrode of the one polarity are layered alternately in the form of concentric circles with a separator between the electrodes.

Sealed cylindrical nickel-metal hydride storage battery

The method for producing a positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery is disclosed. The method includes a first oxidation treatment of a raw material powder comprising a nickel hydroxide solid solution and cobalt hydroxide to oxidize the cobalt hydroxide to a cobalt oxyhydroxide; and a second oxidation treatment of the powder obtained in the first oxidation treatment to oxidize the nickel hydroxide solid solution to a nickel oxyhydroxide solid solution.

Method for producing a positive electrode active material for an alkaline storage battery

The present invention provides alkaline storage batteries high in energy density and excellent in overdischarge resistance, and, besides, less in decrease of capacity even if charging and discharging cycle is repeated at high temperatures. There is used a positive electrode comprising a foamed nickel substrate having the number of pores of 80-160 pores/inch (PPI ) and a thickness of skeleton of 30-60 &mgr;m in which spherical nickel hydroxide solid solution particles having an average particle size of 5-20 &mgr;m and a cobalt oxide conductive agent having an average particle size of 1 &mgr;m or less and mainly composed of &ggr;-cobalt oxyhydroxide having a cobalt valence of higher than 3.0 are held and the total occupying ratio of the spherical nickel hydroxide solid solution particles and the cobalt oxide conductive agent based on the whole electrode plate is in the range of 75-85 vol %.

Non-sintered positive electrode for alkaline storage battery and alkaline storage battery using the same

The present invention provides a positive electrode material for alkaline storage batteries which has high energy density and causes little capacity reduction even when a charge/discharge cycle is repeated at high temperatures. The positive electrode material for alkaline storage batteries of the present invention comprises nickel hydroxide particles and a layers of cobalt oxide coating the nickel hydroxide particles. A valence of cobalt of the cobalt oxide is greater than 3.0, and the cobalt oxide contains sodium ions or potassium ions inside the crystal and further fixes lithium hydroxide or lithium ions.
