A tooth whitening composition includes a whitening component; a metal ion chelator; water; and polyalcohol, the weight ratio of the water and the polyalcohol being, water:polyalcohol=3.5:1 to 20:1, and also, the total amount of the water and the polyalcohol, in the composition, being greater than or equal to 50 wt. % and less than or equal to 85 wt. %.

Provided is a filler for dental glass ionomer cements, the filler to a surface of which a compound(s) having a carboxyl group(s) is/are bound via a silicon atom, for the purpose of providing: a filler suitable for dental glass ionomer cements that can provide a hardened cement having a high strength by being mixed with a dental glass ionomer cement composition, the filler that can be easily manufactured from a general inorganic powder as a raw material; and a manufacturing method of the filler for dental glass ionomer cements. The manufacturing method includes binding a carboxylic acid having an unsaturated double bond(s) exclusive of a (meth)acrylate compound to an inorganic powder whose surface is treated with a silane coupling agent having an unsaturated double bond(s).

Filler for dental glass ionomer cement and method for manufacturing the same

Provided is a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder that can provide a dental glass ionomer cement hardened body excellent in acid resistance, the glass powder including sodium and potassium which have an effect of lowering the reflective index of glass. A mass ratio of potassium to sodium in the component is in the range of from 1.2 to 1.9 in terms of oxide.

[Problems to be Solved] To provide fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder enabling to improve acid resistance of dental glass ionomor cement and a production method thereof. [Solution] A lanthanum compound eluted in the presence of polycarboxylic acid and water exists only in a surface layer of a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder. An amount of the fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder is preferably 1 to 5% by weight in terms of oxide. The fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder is produced by mixing an aqueous solution of a lanthanum compound and a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder not containing lanthanum, and heating them. The aqueous solution of lanthanum compound is an aqueous solution of a water solvable lanthanum compound, preferably an aqueous solution of lanthanum nitrite and/or an aqueous solution of lanthanum chloride.

To provide a dental restorative material composition using an organic-inorganic composite filler having excellent surface smoothness like a natural tooth, low polymerization shrinkage, excellent X-ray contrast imaging property, similar transparency to that of a natural tooth, and no variation of transparency before and after the composition is hardened, the dental restorative material composition includes (a) a (meth)acrylate monomer, (b) an organic-inorganic composite filler having an average particle diameter of 5 to 50 &#x3bc;m which is made by mixing a (meth)acrylate monomer and a fine particle filler having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005 to 0.3 &#x3bc;m and having X-ray impermeability, (c) a fine particle filler having an average primary particle diameter of 0.005 to 0.04 &#x3bc;m, and (d) a photopolymerization initiator.

Dental restorative material composition

The invention provides a dental glass ionomer cement composition comprising (a) an .alpha.-.beta. unsaturated carboxylic acid polymer having a weight-average molecular weight lying in a specific range, (b) a polymerizable unsaturated organic compound having a CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R1)--COO group, (c) water, (d) an organic aromatic compound having a --SO.sub.2 group, (e) a fluoroaluminosilicate glass powder having a mean particle size and specific gravity each lying in a specific range and capable of reacting with the component (a), and (f) a compound containing at least one element selected from the group consisting of aluminum, iron and tin. This composition can be cured either without recourse to conventional redox reaction systems or without exposure to visible light. It can be used with good-enough physical properties for dental therapy while it is harmless to the dental pulp, and can be stored over an extended period of time.
