Pneumatic air systems for use onboard aircraft include a compressor configured to receive air from an air supply and increase a pressure of said received air to generate compressed air, a heat exchanger configured to receive the compressed air as a first working fluid and a treating air as a second working fluid, the heat exchanger configured to convert the compressed air to compressed and temperature treated air, one or more aircraft systems configured to receive the compressed and temperature treated air, and a surge prevention circuit arranged to prevent surge of air at the compressor, wherein the surge prevention circuit comprises a mechanical valve that is actuated based on a detected pressure within a sense line operably coupled to the mechanical valve.

An environmental control system is provided and includes equipment to generate an environmental control effect, a damper associated with a zone to control a portion of the environmental control effect permitted to affect the zone by assuming one of various damper positions and a capacity controller operably coupled to the equipment and the damper to control operation of the equipment and to adjust the damper to assume the one of the various damper positions based on a demand of the zone and a capacity of the equipment.

Two-phase refrigeration system

A method of operating a heat transfer system includes starting operation of a first heat transfer fluid vapor/compression circulation loop including a fluid pumping mechanism, a heat exchanger for rejecting thermal energy from a first heat transfer fluid, and a heat absorption side of an internal heat exchanger. A first conduit in a closed fluid circulation loop circulates the first heat transfer fluid therethrough. Operation of a second two-phase heat transfer fluid circulation loop is started after starting operation of the first heat transfer fluid circulation loop. The second heat transfer fluid circulation loop transfers heat to the first heat transfer fluid circulation loop through the internal heat exchanger and includes a heat rejection side of the internal heat exchanger, a liquid pump, and a heat exchanger evaporator. A second conduit in a closed fluid circulation loop circulates a second heat transfer fluid therethrough.

Operation of a cascade air conditioning system with two-phase loop

Systems and methods for autotuning a HVAC system controller. The method may include receiving a performance coefficient and providing a step-input using an autotuner relay to measure ultimate gain and ultimate period in a controlled HVAC system. The method may also include adjusting the ultimate gain and ultimate period to account for a relay hysteresis, and applying a tuning rule to derive a proportional gain and an integral time for a controller of the HVAC system control loop. The method may further include updating the controller with the proportional gain and integral time, and verifying the proportional gain and integral time. Verifying the proportional gain and integral time may include setting a performance envelope having a tightness related to the performance coefficient, applying a step-input to provoke a closed-loop response, and comparing the closed loop response with the performance envelope to determine whether the closed-loop response is within the envelope.
