An exhaust gas recirculation system for a multi-cylinder engine is provided, which includes an exhaust manifold connected to a cylinder head, a catalyst connected to a downstream end of the exhaust manifold in terms of an exhaust gas flow, an EGR gas outlet provided downstream of the catalyst, an in-head EGR passage penetrating the cylinder head, and an EGR pipe extending from the EGR gas outlet and directly connected to an inlet of the in-head EGR passage to lead EGR gas thereto. The catalyst is disposed so that the exhaust gas flows therein from a first side to a second side in an engine cylinder lined-up direction. The EGR gas outlet is located on the second side with respect to the center of the engine in the cylinder lined-up direction, and the inlet of the in-head EGR passage is located in the first side with respect to the engine center.

Engine exhaust gas recirculation system

An air intake apparatus of a multi-cylinder engine includes an intake air inlet passage, an intake air distribution portion, a plurality of independent intake air passages, and a secondary gas inlet passage. The intake air inlet passage has one end portion attached to a throttle valve, and the other end connected to an intake air distribution portion. The intake air distribution portion has a space therein. The secondary gas inlet passage is connected at a part spaced apart, in the intake air inlet passage, from the throttle valve. The intake air distribution portion has a reflux passage which is a passage that connects the space and a part between the one end portion and the other end in the intake air inlet passage. The reflux passage is a passage which refluxes fresh air and secondary gas introduced from the intake air inlet passage to the intake air inlet passage.

Air intake apparatus of multi-cylinder engine having secondary gas inlet passage connected to intake air inlet passage

Disclosed is an intake apparatus for an engine transversely mounted within an engine compartment at a front of a vehicle. The intake apparatus comprises: an intake manifold made of a synthetic resin and disposed on a front side of the engine, the engine front side being a front side of the vehicle; and a fuel distribution pipe disposed between the engine and the intake manifold to extend in the cylinder row direction and capable of delivering fuel to respective cylinders of the engine; wherein the intake manifold has a protruding portion provided on a front surface thereof to protrude from the front surface in a vehicle forward direction, wherein the protruding portion is provided at a position capable of allowing a member disposed in front of the intake manifold to come into collision therewith in the event of a vehicle frontal collision.

Intake apparatus for engine

An intake system of an engine includes an engine and an intake manifold. The intake manifold defines individual intake air passageways each connecting one of cylinders to a volume chamber. Each of the individual intake passageways includes a first route and a second route. The first route has a natural frequency, of an air column, synchronized with a first revolution higher than an engine revolution for maximum torque such that a dynamic supercharging effect is obtained at the first revolution. The second route has a natural frequency, of an air column, synchronized with a second revolution higher than the engine revolution for maximum torque such that a dynamic supercharging effect is obtained at the second revolution. The second revolution differs from the first revolution. A difference between the first and second revolutions is set lower than or equal to 15% of a maximum engine revolution.

Intake manifold structure for engine

An intake system for an engine is provided. The system includes a chamber room formed in an intermediate section of an intake passage, an intercooler disposed inside the chamber room, an intake air inlet chamber formed in a part of the chamber room upstream of the intercooler, an introducing portion for introducing intake air into the intake air inlet chamber, and a baffle plate dividing the intake air inlet chamber into an upstream space communicating with the introducing portion and a downstream space communicating to the introducing portion via the upstream space. When the engine is in a low engine load operation, the intake air mainly flows through the upstream space to an intercooler side via the baffle plate, and when the engine is in a high engine load operation, the intake air flows through the upstream and downstream spaces to the intercooler side via the baffle plate.

Intake system for engine

An intake device of an engine comprises an intake manifold of a four-cylinder inline engine and a water-cooling type of intercooler. The intake manifold includes a downstream branch pipe portion connecting to cylinders, a chamber portion connecting to the downstream branch pipe portion, and an upstream intake pipe portion connecting to the chamber portion. A rectangular opening portion having a vertically-long shape is formed at the upstream intake pipe portion. The intercooler includes an intercooler body portion having a pair of faces which has the widest face-area and faces to each other in an engine width direction. The intercooler body portion is installed in the chamber portion, by being inserted through the rectangular opening portion, so as to divide an inside of the chamber portion into two parts in the engine width direction thereby.

Blow-by gas recirculation system for internal combustion engine

An EGR plate member configured of an EGR plate inner and outer is interposed between a cylinder head and an intake manifold, including an exhaust gas recirculation passage formed therein. The EGR plate member has a lower protruding portion to protrude outward beyond respective connecting faces thereof with the cylinder head and the intake manifold. A common passage portion of the exhaust gas recirculation passage is substantially formed at the protruding portion. Part of the common passage portion has its laterally-long cross section which is offset toward the cylinder head. The offset portion of the EGR plate member has its greater thickness than other part thereof, extending below an intake port flange portion. Accordingly, the exhaust gas can be cooled by an outside air, thereby reducing an improper heat influence on the intake manifold.

Exhaust gas recirculation device of engine

An oil separating mechanism to be attached to a cylinder block having a concave portion includes a cover member for forming a closed space; a partition wall for dividing the closed space into an inner chamber and an outer chamber; a dividing wall for dividing the inner chamber into a first inner chamber and a second inner chamber; a gas inlet for introducing gas into the first inner chamber; a gas outlet for discharging the gas; a first gas port for communicating the first inner chamber with the outer chamber; and a second gas port for communicating the outer chamber with the second inner chamber. The gas introduced into the first inner chamber flows from the first inner chamber to the outer chamber. Then, the gas flowing from the outer chamber to the second inner chamber is discharged through the gas outlet.

Intake manifold of engine

Each surge tank disposed over the respective cylinder head of the combustion engine is connected to the intake port of each cylinder of the combustion engine individually and independently through the independent intake passages. The independent intake passages form a space, i.e. a dead space, in association with the surge tank and the cylinder head, and a first volume chamber or a second volume chamber is disposed within the space in order to provide the dynamic effect of intake air. The dynamic effect of intake air is achieved at least either of resonance supercharging or inertia supercharging.

Intake system for multi-cylinder engine

A fuel intake system for a combustion engine of a type having V-shaped first and second cylinder banks and also having a crank axis of the crankshaft, which comprises a throttle casing disposed in a center space delimited between the first and second cylinder banks, elongated first and second surge tanks extending in a direction parallel to the crank axis and disposed on respective sides of the center space, and a passage system communicating the throttle casing to each of the first and second surge tanks. The passage system comprises a merging region communicated with the throttle casing and first and second branch ducts branched off from one end of the merging region opposite to the throttle casing. The first and second branch ducts connect to the first and second surge tanks, respectively. Each of the first and second branch ducts is comprised of two independent passages spaced apart from each other in a direction parallel to the crank axis. These two independent passages of each of the first and second branch ducts are communicated with different portions of the associated surge tank which are uniformly spaced from each other in a direction parallel to the crank axis.

Fuel intake system for V-type combustion engine

An intake system for a V-type engine having a plurality of cylinders disposed in each of left and right cylinder banks has a central surge tank which is disposed above the space between the left and right cylinder banks and communicates with the atmosphere through a common intake passage, and left and right surge tanks which are respectively disposed above the left and right cylinder banks. Communicating passages connect the central surge tank with the left and right surge tanks, and discrete intake passages communicate the left and right surge tanks with the cylinders. At least one of the communicating passages on each side of the central surge tank is disposed between the discrete intake passages on the side of the central surge tank.

Intake system for internal combustion engine

Each cylinder bank of a V-type engine is provided with a plurality of cylinders which are not in sequence in firing order. A collecting intake passage is connected to each of the cylinders of both banks by way of independent intake passages which pass between the two banks and have the same effective channel length, and each of the independent intake passages is arranged so that it extends substantially perpendicularly and upwardly from a cylinder. Both collecting intake passages are arranged above one of the cylinder banks, and the collecting intake passage which is connected to a cylinder of the other cylinder bank is arranged on the independent intake passages connected to the other collecting intake passage. By doing so, overlapping of both collecting intake passages can be avoided and thus the height of the intake system can be reduced. The independent intake passages and the collecting intake passage which overlaps the former have a common wall. In one embodiment, each of the collecting intake passages is formed integrally with a high speed intake passage and a low speed intake passage. The vertical positions of the high speed intake passages for each bank are varied. The high speed rear side intake passage is connected to the underside of the low speed rear side intake passage. The low speed and high speed front side intake passages are connected to each other by way of a common side wall.
